Let me tell you about our middle child. He can be a difficult child to like. He is whiny and bossy, and frequently bratty and sulky as well. With him being a somewhat older kid that I have no biological connection to, there is no instinctive bond. Loving him is an active process I put conscious effort into. When I was in middle school, or thereabouts, I went through my bookshelves.  I took all the books that I felt were critical to my childhood and put them in a box (a purple box with brass handles and Tigger - not just any box).  The rest of the children's books on my shelves I donated to charities or otherwise gave away ( Read more... )
