So I'm damned busy, but I'm trying to get up to speed on the fallout from Joey Manley's column, which I have never paid much attention to because it just doesn't seem very interesting, possibly because I am not an online comic creator and these columns seems like wierd subliminal drama stirring broadcasts to everyone who ever scanned in a comic to ( Read more... )

I was totally kidding. I can't imagine two webcomicers LESS about interweb drama than the two of you. Would you like a retraction?

It didn't sink in that in the interest of telling a joke I might actually add to the problem the point of my post was making. HA.

There's not an easy anser here, It's basically a shit slinging war between a Kurtz type faction v a Joey Manley type faction over who sucks more. It's more angry than just about any flare up I've seen (Not that I've been privy to too many of these), and started over a column Joey Manley wrote on the Pulse about the history of Webcomics. I'm not sure the intent of the column, if it's meant to be a straight up opinion piece or intended to be honest, articulate discourse about the subject. As an opinion piece, it is what it is, hard to take a man to task for liking something or disliking it. As a piece of articulate discourse it sort of fails completely. I read through a good deal of the thread before I even read the column, and was shocked to read a piece I thought was incredibly passive aggressive and not very well thought out. I don't know why I should be surprised, though I had a generally good opinion of Manley up to this point. I guess I didn't expect such poorly masked contempt for... I'm not even sure, something? I absolutely don't get a really strong sense of what you're saying about community in webcomics. (Unless you are being sarcastic and I am dense) From the outside, you don't really have to dig too deep to see that below the very surface of alot of the more high profile comics out there, there seems to be a real image problem. You're in it though, so I can't speak for what you've experienced. There are units of people out there who are clearly very good to one another, but the factions are like the worst of high school at times.

Oh, also, Rich is awesome. Met him at SPX a few years back, extremely cool.
