More trim is now attached. The bodice is done, and I've managed to cartridge pleat five widths of fabric onto the waistband.
I love wonderweb for things like this. A piece wedged in the hem at the top edge gives a little bit of body to the cartridge pleats. I also used it to turn the front edge, and the hem for that smooth, stitchless look.
Then, lots and lots and lots of cartridge pleating. I tend to do it freehand. The sheer amount of fabric being pleated into this makes it impossible to knife pleat with any hope of success, and I do like the "kick" of the pleats at the waist.
Then, when turned:
It's not perfectly regular, but no one will ever notice when it's on.
There's more bling to go round the neckline, but at least it's done down the front edge. The big spangly thing is a diamonte button that I picked up in Remnant Kings - they have some excellent and very reasonably priced flashy buttons at the moment.
And finally, here's the bodice, and a long shot (and an unexpected cat...) just so you can see quite how much fabric is going to go into this polonaise...
Next: Clean the Wonderweb off the iron. Press the skirts. Uuuurgh. Press the petticoat. More trim round the neckline. Then add the curtain rings down the seams for the polonaise. Nearly there!
