Put down the needle and step away from the sewing machine...
Last minute buttons were sewn on in the car in time honoured fashion.
The last few days of frantic frocking passed with little opportunity for photos, as we were scrambling to get things finished. We have sworn not to let this happen again!
Most of the sewing was final titivation of the coats, the breeches, and the stomachers, with a couple of petticoats thrown in for good measure.
Suey managed to complete all her insane pleated ruffles and drape her petticoat. There was some last minute sewing on of trim in the bar on Friday afternoon... It was very effective when it was all done.
The blue and silver suit and the cream and gold also worked well in the final cut, after some mad rushing to get to the end before thread/time/sanity gave out!
Roger did look very fine in his fancy frockery! And not half bad in the last minute doctoring coat!
There was quite a bit of mad scrambling to get some of Su's stuff done. She needed to complete the embroidered stomacher and a petticoat to go with the black sacque. They came out really well. The stomacher also went nicely with the anglaise... And the anglaise petticoat worked really well, too. But it did teach us to put the pins away and turn into pumpkins on the dot of midnight!
Mme de pompadour needed a stomacher. This was The Stomacher That Ate our brains!
There were many slices cut of starched silk... It got done with the pinking wheel. We ended up with STOMACTHULU!!!
The Tentacled Monster!
Turned out the right way, with the bows all ties and trimmed down, it was very effective:
The other things we did for the Masquerade Ball were the masks and the silver ship. Himself did all the painting for these, though Su put the lace on hers first...
Motifs were cut out of some excellent heavy chemical lace:
The mask was painted with PVA, the lace was cut out and soaked in PVA and then placed on the mask. When it was dry, Himself airbrushed it and the other masks.
Himself also painted the ship that went in Suey's wig silver:
I shall try to persuade him to do a proper diary of making the masks and the ship.
My last minute sewing was mostly on Roger's things. I had huge numbers of buttons to cover and sew on, and all the buttonholes on the planet to sew! But we got there in the end. Most of my personal kit was finished well before the last week, so here are a few eyecandy pics.
I did titivate the the Gainsborough Hat just before wearing it. Now that really WAS last minute!
There were kitties. Mostly they were sleeping kitties!
