Ok, I'm back. I want to get back into the habit of posting a couple good things every day. I need to keep a good positive attitude, and I need help. External accountability will do the trick, at least at first.
1. I had a nice long dinner with a friend from grad school and sold him on some important elements of the learner-centered teaching approach that I've adopted this term for my undergrads.
2. I had a nice long conversation with my former advisor about the job market and about professional, grownup things. I'm not his student any more, and that's good.
3. I met my coauthor from the first (2005) book, for the first time. Nice guy.
4. I have a corner suite on the 36th floor of a hotel in Toronto, overlooking Lake Erie. Gorgeous.
5. I found a parking place at National Airport without any trouble. [This really actually is a big thing. Even at 5:30 AM, parking can be scarce there.]
6. My relative met me at the airport and had my books for me - yay for three new novels in French! Yeah, so I'm still reading YA literature, but my vocabulary is getting there... Goal is to graduate to grownup literature by this time next year.
7. My suite has an electric kettle. Not just a coffee pot through which one could run water for tea, but a stand-alone electric kettle. Standard in all the rooms. I love people who take their tea seriously.
good stuff
