Still alive!*

Today did not have an auspicious start but it is getting better so I will trust that things are going in the right direction and hope that they continue.

Not an auspicious start, you ask? Well,...

--I've been fighting off some sort of virus thing this week and generally feeling like I've been run over by a very large truck. Today seems to be the last gasp, if you will, but it manifested as, umm, gastro-intestinal distress with very little preamble so, yeah.

--About and hour after I stumbled my way through walking the dogs this morning I got a call from someone in the 'hood who had them in her yard. Seems the carpentry finish guy left the sliding porch door open, again. Letting the homeowner's dogs out each of your first two days on the job is not a good start, man. We had a chat.

--The kitchen countertops are delayed, again. I'm really not sure why. My GC keeps getting different answers. Now they say they'll be ready on the 25th. We're scheduled to move back on the 28th. And since the tile backsplash, the dishwasher, the cooktop, the kitchen sink and fixture, and the painting touch-ups all have to come AFTER the countertop it looks like we'll be moving in before the kitchen is done. I don't really care as long as we have the rest of the inspections and the city grants us an occupancy permit. It should be okay since it will just be like occupying the house during a kitchen remodel (also it should take < a week to finish it all) but technically they could say 'No. The house is unfit for occupancy." Which would suck rocks since we have to be out of the apartment (also, yikes, ANOTHER $900 in rent!)

BUT

--The maple butcher block top for the kitchen island was delivered! Yay! Not sure how they can fabricate it and ship it from Washington State (I tried local, really! These guys were half the price even after freight charges) faster than the Silestone folks can fabricate the rest and ship it across town but... We have a 6' by 3' maple butcher block!!!

-- I found this vinyl decal (~20"x13")

on Esty and should have it to apply to The Boy's closet door before he comes home from camp!

--more mail from camp! Yay! This one WAS addressed to the cat (stinker) but he specifically asked Wint to tell us hello.

--Feel moderately less squashed now than earlier, hey...I'll take what I can get!

--wrote a little double-drabble that I don't hate for ae_match. Words may be sticking around this time, who knows.

--sent off the second package** to camp: New edition of "TheOnion", origami paper, Shipbreaker by Paolo Bacigalupi (I thought he read it when I did but he didn't), and a hardcopy of this amazing image via Gleeclub:

Sorted.

*Yes, OF COURSE, that is a Portal/Jonathon Coulton reference. The kid has me well trained

**The 1st package was timed to arrive Tuesday: new ed. of "Popular Science", Portal T-shirt, message in cipher, crocheted hacky-sack balls for the whole cabin.
