Renovation Pinboard-y post: The Bathrooms and misc ceiling fans

May 07, 2011 17:43

Oh, wow!  I really enjoy referring to our BATHROOMS plural! Can't wait!

First up is the ceiling fan we'll be using pretty much everywhere else (the reading nook, the office, master bedroom) if you've never lived in Central Texas let me assure you ceiling fans are required for survival, even with a good HVAC system. I like this one because it feels clean and simple (and won't detract from the mason jar chandelier on space over from the nook) but still feels a little special. I also like the shape of the fan blades. It's possible that I've looked at WAAAY to many fans in the last few weeks.

In The Boy's room we had to go small since he has a loft bed and we would truly rather not have a decapitation incident. So he's getting this "hugger" (oh dear, I'm using light-folk vernacular now!)

In our existing bathroom we're not doing much more than a facelift: painting the vanity cabinets a greenish gray and topping it with a nice piece of stone that we won in a school silent auction FIVE YEARS AGO and never actually used. The stone dealer is a friend who graciously assured us there was no expiration date...we're getting our other countertops and sinks and stuff from her and we <3 her muchly!

Anyhow...white tiles, white floor, pale green walls and probably this slate for the counter

I PERSONALLY ripped ut the horrible flourescent lightbox  and we'll be putting this or something very similar up over the mirror

(but in a satin nickel/pewter-ish finish). Mirror To Be Named Later but likely a nickel version of the bronze one below that is going into the master bath.

Speaking of master bath...

The shower is a 4x12 matte biscuit subway tile with these pebbles on the floor

The tile for the rest of the flooring is this tile in 20x20 the colors are kind of washed out here
but it shades from pale to a nice coffee brown.

A really cool guy in Georgia (US not Central Europe) is making this vanity for us

and our dear friend in stone is helping me find remnants to top it (nice & cheap!) in a dark brown granite close to this...

Here's the mirror we're putting over it

The over-head light
and sconces for each side of the mirror

...and that's pretty much it... I still need to choose the rest of the faucets (Tuesday) and make Dave be decisive about the rail lighting and carpet in the office but we seem to have survived the most disorienting barrage of CHOICES!NOW! with sanity mostly intact.

Picture of the real thing in a few weeks.

Next week...PAINT CHIPS!

scarred but smarter, change is good, such first world problems, made of win, the joys of home renovation
