Yet another reason to love Eileen Smith!
Through her Texas Monthly blog, "In the Pink" she is growing into a worthy successor to Molly Ivins, Liz Carpenter, and all the other Tough Texas Liberal Gals that came before. I usually only check in before work so I missed yesterday afternoon's gem until now:
"Attorney General Greg Abbott has announced that Texas will legally challenge the health care plan just passed by the House in order to save us from such bloodthirsty baby killers as Catholic nuns and pro-life Democrats. Late last night, Abbott issued a statement saying that the federal legislation violates the Constitution by infringing upon our individual liberties, especially those of the millions of uninsured Americans who will now have access to medical care.
As you’ve heard by now, it was our own Rep. Randy Neugebauer who was the one that shouted “baby killer” during Bart Stupak’s floor speech. However, according to the congressman, he wasn’t calling Stupak a baby killer; he was calling Obama’s executive order, banning the use of federal funding of abortions, a baby killer. Which goes to show, never, ever take your eye off an executive order. Those things are ruthless baby-eating machines."
There's more goodness as she calls Neugebauer out for benefiting from routine health screenings which caught his prostate cancer early yet being unwilling to approve the same level of health care for his constituents.
