Hmm, I'm really not sure where this one came from, it's been hanging around in my "incomplete" file with no attribution. I think it was purported to be from the BBC and the point was no one really reads these books? Sure it's called well-read NOW. Back when I was reading most of these I was an unhappy (and pretentious) teen living in Edmonton, Alberta and working hard at not making friends since I didn't want to be there (1975-1981). Edmonton is actually a lovely town but not the very best place for a pseudo-intellectual geek girl from Texas. Trufax: my parents once "grounded" me by taking away my library card! I retaliated by renting Harlequin Romances from a girl around the block whose mother let her subscribe to them. She made a killing at a buck a pop!

Also, I'm getting pretty old ;)

Thanks for the recs! I love the Bryson I've read but haven't gotten around to all of his work.

The Harlequins were dreadful and I lapped them up!

There was a fun remix com called TW_Harelquin that inspired some interesting (and some not so) fics including one I really fell for and will rec as a sweetly schmoopy but well written fun read

If it's the same meme I've seen before, and I'm remembering correctly, it's Britain's 100 favourite books as voted for by the BBC viewing public or something along those lines.
