"It is desired to inflate..."

Doing online chemistry homework related to gas laws, I had to laugh when I read the beginning of the following sentence:

"It is desired to inflate a baggie..."

It might be appropriate to say, "It is desired to inflate an aeronautical balloon..." or some similarly grandiose-sounding object. But using a such a passive/omnipotent voice in conjunction with "baggie"? Please.
