I'm really glad I got to come home this weekend... it's been really fun! On Friday, I picked Nina up from school and took her to get her Peter Pan haircut. Then we practiced for a while and hung out with a whole bunch of people who came to visit.
Saturday, after Nina's rehearsal, we drove to Bethlehem, PA for the Wizard Rock show! We got a little lost on our way to the library but that's okay because we finally found it, ran up the hill that we parked at the bottom of, and got to meet everyone. One of my favorite things about the show was how many awesome people we got to meet in such a short timespan! Whether they were in bands, friends with bands, fans of ours, or a whole crapload of random little kids, everyone was so nice and we had a great time hanging out with them.
Then we went in a caravan of cars all following each other and headed over to The Glofe Cafe. It was pretty cool in there... very rock and roll. We spent most of the show enjoying the Big Blue (crazy blue soda... it was insane!) and sitting at our merch table. We shared the couch behind it with our new friend Dylan, who was quite the salesman and tried to lower the prices so people would buy his shirts. I think he was about 6 years old. His mom kept coming over to tell him otherwise... we had a good time at this table.
We ended up performing a little early on the list because of some technical problems the other bands were having, which was cool! We realized we left our set list on the back of the mapquest directions in the car, so we tried to remember all of our songs. We only forgot "Murdar in da Batroom"... oh well, no wizard rap for the night. But the audience response was really awesome; the best we've had so far at a show! Everyone seemed to enjoy it even though Nina and I hadn't really practiced in a long time and my guitar can't hold a tune for more than 10 seconds. We even threw together a new song called "Flushed" and played that!
During Bertie Botts, Dylan, our friend from the merch table, walked up to me and handed me a cupcake. Apparently, he couldn't find us because we were gone from the table and instead, we were performing in the next room. Adorable.
Also we got to see our friends in A Lightning Bolt Scar who came a little late, but were really cool! We met Alek at the Philly concert over the summer but never really got to talk to him until this weekend. He is a cool kid! We had a blast rocking out with them to Whompy's crazy set with his magic guitar JoJo. And one of them was from France so Nina got all excited and talked to him in French. I traded t-shirts with Darius, who is the coolest little 7-year-old rockstar ever. He painted a dragon on the one he gave me. Awesome. We covered his song "Dragon Rock Rulz" for about 10 seconds during our set because he was sitting up in the front, watching. I don't think I've ever seen that kid sit so still. But he got all excited and sang it with us so that was cool!
And his little brothers are adorable!! Holden (awful Catcher In The Rye flashback but he's so cute) was knocking on the elevator door when we were in the library basement because it took a good five minutes for it to open. He kept yelling "OPEN THE DOOR!!!" at it and Nina and I were trying so hard not to crack up. And little Oliver, the baby of the family, is the quietest and sooo cute. His dad (who was also really cool) kept cursing in front of him and Oliver would repeat the word, but I don't think his dad realized that's what he was trying to say. Funny stuff! "Damn it!" "Dablat!" "Good job, Oliver... that's right!"
We even signed some autographs and took a bunch of pictures with fans! Everyone was really friendly and nice... we even got to see a few familiar faces from the MySpace and other concerts! And we sold all of the leftover merch from the summer shows. We're trying to figure out some more gigs for the future because we had such a great time at this one!
So now I'm putting off going home again... I'm going to have bigger issues if I miss class again this week because I have to finish the stuff for my part of tomorrow's English presentation and we're having a group meeting after my class tonight that everything has to be ready for. But my mom wants me to clean my room first and I've been so busy this weekend, I haven't gotten to it yet. I'll probably just hide the clothes on the floor in my closet, put the empty laundry basket in the hallway, and make my bed. It'll be good.
