I haven't been writing much lately but I figured I'd give ya'll SOMETHING to read before I'm allowed to post my
remixthedrabble fic. So... meme~!
20 years ago: 1987. I was... eight months old, living in an apartment in Toronto with my mum and dad. I believe my mum was trying to correct my lazy eye by holding a lukewarm teabag over it. I was told this was my aunt's brilliant idea.
15 years ago: 1992. I was five and living in Dartmouth, Nova-Scotia. I still remember the house, mostly because I remember that Godzilla was trampling the neighborhood as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Samurai Pizza Cats tried to restrain it to the tree like a puppy. This was, of course, a dream. Don't remember many, but that's one's cracked-out enough that it remained with me. Kind of like the one about the mechanical cats trying to take over the world, or the evil vacuum cleaner who tried to strangle me with a cord and then disappeared as pirates threw me into a bottomless pit in the linen closet.
... Lets leave it at that, shall we? >.>
Oh, and I also started going to Carrefour's primary-thing. And my brother was being a pain in the ass because he was an infant.
10 years ago: 1997. I was 10. I started grade 5 in September, and managed to break 2 pairs of glasses. This was devastating because I had just gotten into reading the year before (anybody remember Animorphs, you know, when it was still good?). Still living in Dartmouth, but I think we were living in Cole Harbour. Since grade 5 was in the pavillons mobile classrooms, and my brother threw a rock at my face in grade 5... which means Chameau cul de sac. >.> That little ass. I think I sat on him after and made him plead for mercy.
5 years ago: 2002. I was 15, in grade 10 at Carrefour (it only became a grade 7-12 when I was in grade 7... before it was primary->12). Not quite sure which house, but I think it was Avenue Du Portage because it was high school). Um... I spent lunch periods playing cards in the hallway, winning most of the time. I read my way through the YA section of the library and was cheerfully discovering the adult section. Anime was my one true love; boys were blah and girls were cute, but insane (except for two people, both of whom I still love but I now know will never go any further than friendship). I took pride in my geekhood and cultivated a weird personality to amuse myself. I think I also wrote my first novel... yup. It was bad, but so very fun. I did my school work, never studied, got good grades, and read a lot instead of going out. Math was my favorite subject, I did well in science and English; and I completely sucked at French and my art classes (I had drama with a woman who sounded like a toad).
2 years ago: 2005. I was 18, and was halfway through the first semester of DISP. University was draining my appetite and making my insomnia more severe. I had mental breakdowns until a certain degree of numbness set in. My academic ego was thrashed and then blown apart by the pressure of seven classes and non-existent study habits. Needless to say, I wrote to keep myself close to sane. I wrote the Winged Ones, a few other short stories, and started toying with the idea of You Are My Eyes and Dreaming of Power's Destruction. Failed calculus by 1%, but DISP was so integrated they only assigned one grade for 5.5 credits. And got an A in philosophy. XP
I started using the bus system in my first year of university. Made friends with some of my fellow DISPers, used
mylia_ as a journal/writing ground. I also forced myself to face my fear of bridges daily since the ferries that go across Halifax Harbour are even more ridiculous than the buses that go over the MacDonald bridge. We also moved into the house I still live in.
The N on my driver's license was taken off.
1 year ago: 2006. Started my second year of university at 19, chose environmental science as my major and neuroscience as my area of emphasis. Managed to pass Intro to Neuroscience despite my mushy-feeling brain; wrote half of Dreaming of Power's Destruction (half of which is now typed to this journal), got better at finding anime and manga through livejournal and other sites. Started to get more involved in fandoms because Sheera made it seem interesting. I also started working at Tim Hortons, transferring to evenings since I wasn't sleeping or eating properly on backshift.
I also got my current laptop (much love~). And I was legally allowed to drink.
So far this year: I discovered another person who's doing the same thing as I am since he's in all of my classes. I've visited Keji (or Kejimkujik), Nova Scotia's National Park, twice in three months when I haven't set foot near it in the last 20 years. Field school was a great experience, despite having no running water and sleeping in a yellow tent that looked like a catepillar (while at Keji). Almost lost a hipwader in the muddy bottom of a stream in the valley. Someone took pictures, but didn't send them to me. Very disappointed. Anyway, I wasn't allowed in the water of that stream for the rest of the day. I've also gotten into the habit of walking very fast.
Right now: Erm, writing this meme, listening to Guns & Roses (1776 songs on random~ so it just changed to a song on the Final Fantasy X soundtrack). contemplating whether I should watch an episode of Gokusen or just go to bed before I fall asleep anyway. Also trying to ignore cramps.
My laptop is being a little pouty since I downloaded 3 odd gigs worth of stuff from Megaupload's happy hour thing (free premium accounts from 10PM-4AM). I brought it with me to Wayne's Friday so I knew we'd have something to watch as we drank.
Tomorrow: Technically, Tomorrow's Monday (so basically class 1030-1130, work/waste time on laptop until 2:30; go to environmental ecology seminar-tutorial thing and be bored). But I'll answer this as Sunday XP I plan to: Watch Gokusen, do some homework, catch up on sleep, hang out with May if she answers her phone since I've only seen her at work recently and that doesn't count since I start as she goes home.
Hopefully write one of the requests I said I would.
