Apology
House looked like shit.
And Wilson had helped put him in this position. Intellectually, he knew that it was House’s fault, that the man had been spiraling out of control for years now; but emotional guilt never listened to reason. That no one tried to absolve him made it even worse.
So he kept visiting the rehab clinic, trying to encourage his friend the way no one else could. It hurt him, but he had to do something. He was Judas -though House was no Jesus-- and it was tearing him from the inside.
He had never expected the apology… not from House. For once, his words were not designed to thrust through Wilson’s defenses and bite flesh; they were a balm. It was surreal in a way, and no one would ever believe the story, but it did not matter. He stayed loyal to House for moments like this, and they were worth all the frustration.
Despite House’s later claim that he did not mean it, Wilson chose to believe otherwise.
