035. Sixth Sense
“A young girl shouldn’t be walking among the dead without an escort.”
The child stared at the young soldier of Clow, unafraid. He was dressed in the ancient ceremonial robes of the King’s Royal Guard, his scimitar resting on his knees still in its scabbard. And though he wore a frown, the princess placed a hand on his knee. “Why are you lonely?” She asked.
“I couldn’t stop the rebels from killing my men.” He answered after a moment, bowing his head. “I did not spot the trap in time… they died trying to protect me.”
“They love you, they want you to be happy.” She reached out, eyes distant as if she was listening to something far away. “Please don’t be sad mister!”
“Who are you, little one?”
“Princess Sakura of Clow.” She answered with a smile, coming back to herself.
Shock registered on the young man’s face. “So they did survive…” A slow smile of relief. “I hoped that the gamble would work but… I’m glad.”
“What’s your name mister?”
“Captain Jay of the tenth division.” He saluted her. ”Thank you, Sakura-hime.”
“SAKURA!” Her brother hollered from the top of a nearby hill, eliciting a guilty smile.
“Bye mister-“
But he was already gone.
