Silks, etc.

I went back to Silks last night, for the first time since May. I had been thinking of giving it up altogether after getting very frustrated with my lack of progress last spring, but getting back on them at imlad and dietrich's wedding a few weeks ago proved a heady and delightful experience, so back I went.
My grip still tires easily and I never stayed up for very long at a go, but frobzwiththingz helped me begin to learn something new and I only had one slightly scary moment when I got too tired and couldn't think straight about how to get out of something. (In my defense, I was still in a daze of exhaustion yesterday and thinking straight about anything was rather harder than it ought to have been.)
There is a new guy there named Basil, who spins poi and is more than happy to teach me. Since I have been wanting to learn to spin for about three years now and was long lamenting that the class at BU directly conflicts with silks and/or contact and/or my Wednesday seminar, having Basil at silks makes me very happy indeed. Two circus skills for the price of one! And something besides my homework or stretching to do when I'm not on the fabrics! It pretty much rocks.
Natalie is a total joy to play with. Going to silks regularly again would be worth it for the baby-fix if for nothing else.

I thought I wouldn't be able to lift my arms today, but while they feel a bit stiff nothing is really sore. This is rather delightful. Maybe I got the worst of the soreness out at the wedding? Maybe arnica really is the best discovery ever? I dunno. Whatever it is, I'll take it and be greatful.

We have once again entered the season of cold. I expect to be unhappily chilled from here until May. (Not hugely unhappily, mind you, more on the lines of a mild irritant. The worst thing is really washing my hair and waiting for it to dry.) Reading in my room requires a blanket on my lap, a sweater, socks, slippers, and tea to keep me comfortable. Sigh. It's only 57 degrees out - not really that cold yet. I envy you exothermic types greatly. Hopefully the little space heater I trash-picked will help.

And in other news, I may FINALLY have caught up on sleep. I got about nine and a half hours last night, as opposed to the 7 or so I've been barely getting for the last few weeks. (I had time to sleep, my body just wouldn't stay in that state and naps weren't happening either. I know that for some people reading this, especially those of you with small children, 7 hours would be a total luxury. But my body is really much much happier with more sleep than that, and the last week was particularly stressful.) I still woke quite a bit in the night, which I'd like to put an end to, but it was much better than it has been. Today is the first time in several days I feel like being awake isn't painfully full of effort. If I can get a few more nights in a row like last night I'll be a very happy camper indeed.

I suppose I should go write that paper assignment now...

silks, body, sleep
