Spider

I finally saw Spider-Man 3. I know, I know. Everyone is already watching another trilogy called Ocean's 13 when I just started on Spider-Man 3. Well, if you lived in NYC you too would understand that I can't just go see a movie whenever I feel like it (here's a hint: there's no such thing as a matinée price). But I do have a review of the movie. There are spoilers in this so be warned.

First off, this movie was fucking amazing. I loved it. I'm always worried about sequels because well, there's a curse on them. Just look at the Jaws sequels or Superman sequels. Hell, watch X-Men 3 to get the idea. Spider-Man was different though. The first one was great: had a solid story, incredible action sequences, memorable characters, laid down the foundation, so on and so on. The second improved on that. It tied in super nicely with the previous film, developed the characters, and holy shit, that fight between Doc Ock and Spider-Man on the side of the building and on the train...fucking amazing. The third movie continues the same idea. A storyline that fits in with Peter Parker and his powers, epic fight scenes, and ties up all loose ends of the previous two films. It's everything that Spider-Man should be.

Don't get me wrong. I don't think I can ever compare Spider-Man 3 to Taxi Driver or Psycho, but for a comic book adaptation (which it was suppose to be, right?), it was perfect. If you're one of those who haven't read a comic book, then let me explain to you that comics are a literature medium full of awesome fight scenes and drama that would put General Hospital to shame, but on the other hand full of hokey shit too. So to address the issues some of you had with the movie, many complained of the hokeyness of Peter strutting his stuff and doing the "shooter" one too many times. I agree, it was hokey, but it was clear as day that the actors were having fun and that transcended from the screen to me. I didn't get pissed off or angry and rejected the entire movie as trash, I smiled and laughed. I went along with it, had fun as well.

I also agree that the writers had a billion subplots written into the movie. But I felt they worked themselves out well. Gwen Stacy worked well within the script, the friendship and contrast of Peter and Harry was beautifully done, the similarities between Eddie and Peter were interesting to see, and the love triangle was simple and easy to sit through. They all worked well and made the movie even more entertaining and more engaging in my humble opinion. There was never a moment during the film when I thought, "Holy shit, is this going to end anytime soon?" I was thoroughly engaged the whole time and kept my eyes glued to the screen and never to my cellphone clock.

And yeah, the emo haircut on Peter looked terrible. But I got past it. I don't know why everyone else didn't. When Venom held down Spider-Man and the Sandman was pummeling him to death, did it still cross your mind, "What a fucking horrible haircut?" Really? Because that was like an hour and a half ago. Get over it.

The only problem I had was that they didn't show enough of Venom (as attached to Eddie Brock) fucking people up. We see news video clips of Venom going through the NYPD SWAT Team like nothing, but only in short clips. I would have liked to see this played out entirely.

Still, not everyone would be happy if the movie was made the way they wanted it to be. I was going through youtube, watching other people's reviews and one guy mentioned he didn't like the claws on Venom. Understand what I mean? However, I hope my review helps those who at this point, haven't made a decision about seeing Spider-Man (like I did). I don't think everyone should go see it. Obviously, if you didn't like the first one or the second one, then don't waste your time or your money, and then waste my time telling me you thought it sucked. But if you enjoyed the previous two films and had fun with them, then definitely watch the third. It's not a cinematic masterpiece, but you won't go thinking you wasted two hours of your life.
