Charmed by the coast and the ancient city...

If we were looking for a place to retire, Calella de Palafrugell would be one of the places which would be seriously considered. It's quiet, has lovely weather and look at that view, what else would one need? Maybe cos we were there quite close to winter, the place was exremely peaceful. Apparently most of the houses there are summer houses!

If I had lots of money, I would really have chosen to buy a retirement home there, instead of travelling around the world :P

Calella de Palafrugell is located in Girona. About an hour's drive out from Barcelona, the city of Girona is tiny with just about 100,000 inhabitants. We also spent some time in the ancient part of the city, which is lovely. Despite its size, this city has a rich history - there were well preserved buildings showing the marks of Jewish and Catholic life there. There is also a small marketplace of sorts along the river and it was really fun checking out the small shops :)

View from the city wall.
Yes, I kinda like views that stretch out far and wide from high places :)

The ancient church that has been rebuilt many times.

Eiffel Bridge, constructed by Mr Eiffel, the same man that built the Eiffel Tower.

Too bad it was just a day trip we took, there were so many hotels in Calella de Palafrugell and the ancient part of Girona and it would have been sweet to stay a night or two!!
