No walls no bars
no cliffs no barriers
lie between us
it is vacuous space
undefined unspoken nothingness
it takes the color from our words
as we send them across
and though black and white
can fuse into elegant images
a subtle element of lifelessness
resides beneath the surface

no betrayal no envy
no anger no wounds
make us blind to each other
it is a thin abyss
with an unknown origin
our eyes do not reach across
for fear our looks will fall
caught by its gravity

but if we synchronize into harmonious notes
I can hold your heart with my eyes
as you can search for mine
and a viaduct can span this chasm
if we choose
