A few weeks ago my pirate group and I performed at the
Portland Rose Festival for two weekends. We had a grand old time pirating, singing shanties, marching (dancing) at the head of the Starlight Parade and all that rot.
Here's a few pictures:
Our loverly "Maid on the Shore"
A few of the funny things that happened...
Asking the "Aztec Milkshakes" boothies if their drinks are made from real Aztecs. To which they replied "They're made of cocoanut, banana, icecream, etc" And me: "....so... you're saying they *dont* taste like real Aztecs?"
During a show a little mexican man ran into the encampment and wanted a picture with me.... DURING THE SHOW. I had to push him out and hiss to get one afterwards. He never came back.
Some old horny man coming in and making me dance during the waltz... I dont dance unless I'm really feeling into it. Then he picked me up.... and wouldn't leave the wenches alone for the rest of the day. -_-
Juggling for hat for the first time. The general public are easily impressed by simple tricks.
Accidently attracting a crowd while practicing with a bullwhip.
Throughout the festival the religious fanatics with the signs about the mores of society were milling about. At one point myself and another pirate were hawking to a long line outside a festival gate and there they were, preachin' it while the liberal Portlanders rolled their eyes and scowled at them. One of the signs, my favorite, was a list of sinful behaviors including drunkenness, thievery and adultery.....I took the opportunity to get on the crowd's good side and yelled "Ha! Free advertising!", "Or you could become a pirate and have some fun in life!!", Getting the entire crowd to Yhar at them and "Alright... who wants a picture of ME in front of the SIGN?!"
Somewhere out there there are pictures of me all wenched up smiling and pointing a thumb over my shoulder at a list of sins. Muah ha.
I just finished all my Scientific Illustration classes, so here's the last of those:
