Help My Mom Thank The Good Samaritans on The Golden Gate Bridge!

May 20, 2011 08:48

A brief detour from our regularly scheduled programming here this week. As some of you know, my sister was in a horrific car accident on the Golden Gate Bridge Sunday evening. She was hit from behind by a speeding, drunk driver. The impact sent her careening into the west-side guard rails, where she was hit by another car, which sent her spinning into the northbound lanes, where she was hit head on by another car, which sent her into the east-side guard rails. Her car was totaled. Miraculously, she survived. When her car finally came to a stop, she started to try to get out. Several people came running out of their cars to check on her and see if she was okay. A couple of them even stayed with her and kept her from moving until the ambulance arrived. My mom was moved to write a letter to the editor of the San Francisco Chronicle to say thank you to those kind souls who made such a difference to my sister in those intense moments after the accident, but the paper didn't print it. So I'm posting it here in the hopes that, through the efforts of social networking, the people who were there that night might see it. If you feel so inclined, please post the link to this blog post on your favorite social networking site and pass the word along, so my mom can say her thanks. Here's her letter:

My daughter was a victim of Sunday evening's automobile accident on the Golden Gate Bridge. Her car was totaled and miraculously she has only moderate injuries. On behalf of my family and myself, I want to thank the amazingly kind people who ran from their cars to hers to see if she was okay. There was an off duty EMT, as well as a nurse who talked to her, held her and stayed with her until the ambulance arrived. We are so very grateful! It's terrifying to have a loved one go through this kind of experience, and it makes such a difference to know that there are such kind and caring people out there who are willing to help. Thank you from the depths of our hearts!
