Fandom: skins
Character/Pairing: JJ centric, JJ/Cook/Freddie friendship, mentions (by implication) of Freddie/Effy and Cook/Effy.... There might be some JJ/Cook in there too depending on how you read it...

Word Count: 260
Disclaimer: Nothing you recognise belongs to me and I'm not making any money from this...
Notes: This was somewhat inspired by the trailer for JJ's episode. (WHICH BROKE MY HEART BY THE WAY). It was also written really quickly so my apologies if it isn't the best thing I've ever written! Let me know what you think! :)
JJ wants to blame Effy for all of it, he really does.
He wants to blame her for the fact that Freddie never wants to come out with him and Cook anymore, he wants to blame her for the look of desperation he sees in Cook’s eyes on the odd occasions Cook lets him glimpse it.
He wants to blame her for all of it.
It would be so easy to blame her for all of it.
But he’s not sure that would be right.
Because deep down he knows whatever’s going on between Cook and Freddie is bigger than Effy; he knows it was there before Effy. They all knew it was there before Effy, they just didn’t like to talk about it. They knew there was a block; they knew they were growing apart. JJ reckons they all hoped college would unite them again, give them a sense of belonging again, a reason why they were still friends…..
It didn’t.
Instead college brought with it new challenges, new friends, new situations, new reasons to stay away from each other....
It brought Effy.
But JJ knows it’s not Effy that’s the problem. He’s knows the problem’s bigger than that. Except JJ’s never really being good at dealing with big problems. Not like this anyway. So he’ll keep blaming Effy, he’ll keep pretending that she’s the only problem. He’ll keep pretending that Cook and Freddie are completely blameless and that she’s the only reason they aren’t friends anymore, she’s the reason for the wedge between them.
It’s easier this way.
