Drabble meme

Mar 01, 2009 15:30

1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn your music player on and turn it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble/ficlet related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it's over. No lingering afterward!
4. Do ten of these, then post them.

Fandom: Skins
Characters/Pairings: JJ, Cook, Freddie. some are gen, some are JJ/Cook and two are Cook/Freddie....
Rating: PG-13ish for a lot of Cook-like words.... =P
Disclaimer: I don't own these characters and I'm not making any money from this....
Notes: I did, for the most part, follow the rules so some if these are a bit, um, off then that would be why! xD Let me know what you think guys! :)

1- Love story- Taylor Swift- JJ centric, JJ/Cook

This love is difficult but it’s real

It’s not easy, this. Whatever this is, it’s certainly not that.

But JJ’s not sure that bothers him that much. It’s not like things have ever been easy between him and Cook. It’s not like anything concerning Cook is ever easy…

But that’s ok. That’s just how it is, that’s just how they are. And despite the fact that on some level he knows it might be better not to go along with it, he does. Because it’s really the only thing that’s real to him, the only thing that makes sense. It’s difficult, but it’s real and, best of all, it’s worth it.

2- Songbird- Freddie centric- JJ/Cook/Freddie friendship- Pre- Series I think…

Cause I feel that when I'm with you
It's alright, I know it's right

......

And I love you, I love you, I love you
Like never before

Freddie knows he doesn’t feel at home anywhere else. He knows he doesn’t feel this comfortable with anybody else. To put it bluntly he doubts he’ll ever meet anybody who he loves as much as JJ and Cook.

Of course he never knows how to tell them this.

When Cook tells him he loves him (when he’s pissed or attempting to repent for his latest fuck up) he doesn’t know how to respond. He’s not good with words. But sometimes he doesn’t think he has to be. Cook can talk enough for the three of them. Plus they’ve always known what he meant, even if sometimes he’s not really sure he does….

They’re his best friends. He loves them. His world wouldn’t make sense without them. The best part is that they know this already. For JJ and Cook a simple “yeah” might actually be enough….

3- Car Crash- Matt Nathanson- Cook centric, Implied JJ/Cook

I wanna feel the car crash
'Cause I'm dyin' on the inside
I wanna let go and know
That I'll be alright, alright

Cook knows he’s fucking everything up. He doesn’t need JJ to tell him that he’s bordering on psychotic. Freddie just tells him he’s dick. He’s not sure which one hits home more….

JJ asks him why he does it, why he’s fucking with their lives too, why he’s dragging them in too. Because Cook doesn’t even have to ask JJ to follow him wherever he goes, rescue him from whatever shit he finds himself in, JJ just does it. The truth is Cook would do all of this for JJ without blinking, it’s just he’s never had the opportunity. JJ’s just too fucking perfect. Or maybe he’s just keeping out of trouble so he’ll always be there to bail Cook out of whatever mess he’s in… Cook’ll probably never find out…

Cook reckons that what he does is a reaction to the shit life he’s had. It started off as close to a philosophy as Cook’s every really got, to enjoy life as much as he could. Because even if life had handed him some shit he didn’t reckon he had to put up with it. He could enjoy life, and fuck it he was going to.

But somewhere along the way it got confused. And now it’s out of control, he knows it’s out of control but he doesn’t know how to stop it. So he keeps going, leaving a path of destruction behind him. A path of destruction he never wanted.

“Just stop it.” Says JJ, “Just fucking stop it. It’s killing Freddie,” he pauses, looks straight into Cook’s eyes and says, “It’s killing me.”

And maybe that’s all Cook needs.

4- Congratulations- Blue October- JJ Centric, JJ/Cook, Freddie/JJ friendship

My mind it kind of goes fast
I'll try to slow it down for you

......

I want to give you something
I've been wanting to give to you for years
My heart

Sometimes JJ thinks Cook knows. There are moments where he thinks Cook can see through the pathetic façade that he attempts to hide behind. He must be kidding himself if he honestly believes Cook hasn’t figured it out yet. But then again, Cook’s always been slightly oblivious…

He’s pretty sure Freddie knows. But that’s ok because Freddie won’t tell, and he won’t laugh. Although he thinks that Freddie feels sorry for him sometimes, which on balance might even be worse….

Sometimes he thinks about telling Cook. But he knows he’d start rambling and nothing would come out the way he wanted it to… plus he’s worried that Cook would offer to fuck him… which has never been what this is about…. He’s not sure what it actually is about, but he knows it’s not that.

So he’ll keep his mouth shut, hoping that, someday, he might just have the guts to tell his best friend that he might love him.

5- Here With Me- Dido- Cook centric, Cook/Freddie

I am what I am, I’ll do what I want, But I can’t hide

Cook’s not used to feeling lost.

He doesn’t always know what he’s doing, but he sure as hell knows he’s going to do it. He’s fine with not having a plan, going with the flow. That’s what makes it fun. It’s got really fucked up before, but nothing he can’t handle. Nothing too big. Nothing he can’t cope with.

He can’t cope with this.

He’s losing Freddie and that’s something he never planned and it’s definitely not something he ever wanted. He hates himself for letting this happen. They’re Cook and Freddie. He thought he’d always have that, even if he had nothing else. Now he’s got a lot of things he never expected, but he’s lost Freddie.

He’d rather have Freddie.

Nothing’s worth this.

6- Time- Chantal Kreviazuk- JJ centric, JJ/Cook/Freddie friendship

Wait, don't go so fast
I'm missing the moments as they pass

JJ doesn’t know how it happened. One minute they were in primary marvelling at the wonder that was breasts, the next they were in college doing… well the same thing really if he’s honest…..

Thinking about how they’ve changed since primary, he’s not entirely sure they really have. Cook’s still Cook, Freddie’s still Freddie and JJ’s still JJ. And although they might not want to admit it right now they’d still stand by each other through anything, although the consequences of doing so seem to be much higher recently….

But the truth is their world’s changed, but they’re still just them. They’ll always be just them. And that’s why it works.

7- Half Boyfriend- Jay Brannan- JJ centric, JJ/Cook, Freddie/JJ friendship

I could give a million reasons
why we should not be friends

…..

but that’s okay
you’ll grow up someday

There are a million reasons why JJ should stay away from Cook.

He’s known this since primary. When Freddie and JJ met Cook for the first time Freddie told him to stay away from him. JJ tried, but for some reason he couldn’t. He felt safe around Cook, despite everything. Plus, Cook liked his magic tricks. And it turned out that once Freddie got to know Cook better they got on ok too so that worked out fine in the end. But looking back on it JJ realises he’s always been in the middle… it’s not like that’s a new thing….

As he got older the reasons to stay away from Cook got bigger, more serious. Cook started messing with things that JJ didn’t understand, things JJ didn’t want to understand. Freddie kept warning him. JJ never listened.

Because there are a million reasons why JJ should stay away from Cook.

But there’s one reason why he can’t.

He’s Cook.

8- That's when I love you- Phil Vassar- JJ/Cook/Freddie friendship

When you don't need me to explain
Cause you already know

None of them are really that good at explaining what they mean.

Cook talks a lot, but he talks a lot of shit too. Most of it isn’t what he really wants to say, it’s just a cover for what’s going on under the surface…..

Freddie just doesn’t really say a lot. Sometimes he doesn’t know how to phrase his thoughts. Sometimes he just doesn’t really think anything needs saying….

And JJ…. Well JJ could fool a lot of people into thinking that he knows what he’s talking about. But most of the time he’s just rambling. Rambling because he’s not sure what to say next, rambling because he’s nervous, rambling because it’s easier than thinking about what he really wants to say….

But somehow none of this matters; they all know what they all want to say anyway. They see through the masks, they know what they’re hiding. They know everything there is to know about each other. And the weird part is that they’re all ok with that.

9- As I am- Miley Cyrus I know, I'm sorry.... Freddie centric, JJ/Cook/Freddie friendship

You almost know me better than
Me, myself and I
Don't know a lot of things
But I know what I got

As I am
Is how you take me

Freddie reckons that, on balance, he doesn’t really know himself that well at all.

He spends a lot of his time wondering why he does the things he does, why certain things are important to him, why he gets so wrapped up in himself, why he lashes out at Cook and JJ. JJ in particular, because it’s not like he’s ever done anything to deserve it. Except perhaps figure out exactly what’s going on with Freddie, exactly when Freddie doesn’t really want to know….

But, on balance, Freddie reckons it’s probably ok that he doesn’t really know himself that well yet. Because he’s got JJ and Cook to help him. And they really know him, all of him. The good bits and the… well… not so good bits. And despite that, and maybe because of it, they still want him. He can figure that out, and that’s all that matters.

10- Iris- the goo goo dolls- Freddie centric, Cook/Freddie

And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies

Freddie thinks Cook talks a lot of shit.

Most of what he says isn’t exactly true. But it’s not exactly lies either. It’s more like exaggerations or evasions. Freddie knows there’s a lot going on under the surface of Cook’s bullshit; most of it is only there to cover the more serious stuff up.

Because this is how Cook works it sticks out a mile when Cook says something he really, honestly, means. Something that isn’t an evasion, something that isn’t an exaggeration. Something he genuinely believes.

I fucking love you man, I fucking love you to bits.

That stuck alright. It hits Freddie hard like it always does when occasional snippets of truth escape from Cook’s mouth. Mostly when he’s too pissed to care what anyone thinks anymore, almost always when he’s with Freddie.

Freddie tries not to think about it too much. But it sticks. It sticks alright.
