So, first, I'd like to welcome abysmalstomach to my friends list. Trust me, She's must prettier than the name would suggest.
I'm doing my best to try and become a bit more active on LJ again. Afterall, many of you don't get to hear from me any other way and so my silence may be construed as bad-friendism.
Before I move on to a rant topic for today, I'd like to take a moment to request from help from my wonderful friends. As many of you know, I lost my dog Misty a couple of weeks ago. I loved her very much and miss her, but the grieving is over and me and the other two puppies are doing very well. However, I don't have much to remember her by and would like to put something special together for her. What I want to do is have a portrait, perferably color, painted of her from this photograph:
Perhaps with a different, more colorful background (you know, a field or something). The problem is, professional artists want about $600 to do this. I can't afford that much so I would like to see if we can't network to find someone who will do it for...say... $200--MAX.
If you know anyone who you think could help please let me know. If you're feeling particularly philthropic you can have it done for me for x-mas, but only if I get to see some of the artists work first because I'm being very picky about how I want this done. My plan is to frame the art along with her collar in the same frame with matting separating the two peices. I also want the art to be more realistic and less... artsy (if that makes any sense).
OK, enough of that! Let's get on to some ranting.
Today, as I drove down the street on my way to work, I saw an interesting sight. There was a thing--might have been a man, might have been a woman--in a wheelchair. Why do I find it necessary to point this out? Well, you see, the interesting thing about this...thing was that while sitting in the wheelchair, it was pulling itself along the road WITH ITS LEGS!!!!
That's right, the thing in the wheelchair was using its legs to pull itself down the road!
But wait... there's more.
Not only was it pulling itself down the road with its legs despite the obvious need for a wheelchair, it was pulling itself down the middle of a lane of ONCOMMING traffic! Yes, it was pulling itself down the lane opposite the one I was in, moving in the same general direction as my vehicle toward the large shiny metal objects that seemed to be getting closer and closer to it.
I'm not sure what became of this person and I don't want to sound judgemental, but if you're legs are strong enough to pull you along the road (at a slight incline I might add), wouldn't you think they'd be strong enough for you to just walk? Furthermore, wouldn't you have the presence of mind to at least move with the flow of traffic rather than against it?
Now admittedly there are a lot of factors that I'm skipping over. There are a lot of unknowns. The person, thing, could have some other disability that makes the wheelchair a necessity. It could be like the T-rex and have, "a big head and little arms." Who can say for certain. It could also have some mental impairments that weren't being made obvious by the suicide run down the wrong lane of traffic. If that is the case, it seems that some watchfull home nurse was failing miserably at their job today!
But this little incident brings up an interesting topic for debate. How should society contend with crazies? Sure, we already have a fairly well set way of dealing with the mentally imparied, but does it work? I mean, if this person-thing weren't deemed a danger to itself or anyone else someone must have gotten the diagnosis wrong because I can gurantee you the the car that hit it would deffinately cause it some harm as well as some mental trauma for the driver and all 17 passengers (given the standard operating size of soccer-mom utility vehicles in my neighborhood).
(BTW for those familiar with Montgomery, this little incident took place on the Carmichael Rd. side of Woodmere Blvd just before the E. Blvd traffic light next to that raceway station.)
So yeah, someone forgot to take their meds this morning and it was showing.
Oh, one more BTW... I ran out of ADD medication. I'm changing channels like a pro surfer in a circut city HDTV showcase room with surround sound and a 108-inch display (That means A LOT if you missed the reference or just don't get technogeek references).
Ok, I've been using this as an opportunity to avoid work, but I think it's time to go eat food so I'm out.
Ciao kiddies!
