An Early Gym Morning

Nov 28, 2006 06:48

Woke up at 4:45, took a quick shower to aide my waking up, and went downstairs to eat a small bowl of cereal.  Filled my water bottle with thirty-two ounces of water, put my shoes on, opened the front door, and was greeted quickly greeted with a 23°F chill.  Sat down in the car, turned it on, contemplated if I was ready to depart on my four mile trek to the gym.  I was!

Upon arrival I noticed the place was packed at 5:15 in the morning!  People were on the ellipticals, many were using the weight machines, while others were swimming laps.  I felt a little overwhelmed as I was hoping it wouldn’t be so busy.  I located a friendly looking upright bike, set the height to 9 (so it would compliment my 6′5″ height and the length of my legs), sat on the seat (which needs more padding), started pedaling, and thirty minutes later I rode 10.8 miles (17.38 kilometers) to nowhere.

I have a complaint.  Why do people need to over exert themselves?  Is there some code that states “You must over exert yourself to have a full and complete workout”?  There was a man, probably no greater than thirty, on a lower-back machine who was running with eighty-percent of the weight-rack.  He’d finish one repetition, stop, breathe, probably count to ten, then do repeat.  If his face could get any redder he’d look like a red balloon.  If he’s trying to impress someone, no one noticed.

It’s officially time to start my day.  Shower, wake Tyler up, get him to school and me to work.  Snow is expected later today; the mountains are getting hammered!
