For all of its many merits (just today I was complimented again by a fellow rider what a great bike I own), Burgman also has a number of seriously irritating design flaws.
One of not-the-least ones is the oil measurement tool. For some, probably totally logical, reason the ocular gauge was only added on the 2006 model and later. 2004 model comes with a simple cap with a gauging rode attached to it - like in a car or practically any engine out there - legit, totally acceptable and I wouldn't mind at all. Problem is - it's stuck right next to, quite literally, the motherloving exhaust. Not only that it makes an oil measurement practically impossible on under any but a completely cold engine, it's also notoriously difficult to remove and especially to put back in. I've already had some experience of doing just that, thinking well the engine had probably had enough time to cool d- OH SHITFUCK!..
But wait, why checking oil at all? Don't you have like a flashing light to let you know when it's time to pull into a garage and have some dude do it properly for you? Well first of all, true. But it will probably be healthy to remember that engine oil is the most important part of you machine, more than gas and yes - even more than the mirror polish and the chrome finishing. Gas is your food, oil is your blood - too little oil and the engine will overheat in seconds with disastrous consequences, too much oil and the engine might actually explode (although it's rare). In short think of oil as your second gas - just as (I suppose) you don't wait for the red light of the gas to start flashing to get some more, so shouldn't you for the oil. And for dessert consider this: you can never know what is it exactly they're putting in for you there in those garages. Can be anything.
