I made it through midterms, so now it's back to the "usual" grind, which isn't necessarily better, just different. This weekend had its ups and downs, but the highlight was definitely the screw dance on Saturday. The concept is the common college one where you're paired with a person (roommate, neighbor, entrymate) and each has to set up a blind date for the other, in our case from among the people in a few other entries. Generally, extreme awkwardness ensues, the actual event fizzles out within 45 minutes, you're able to look back later in your college career and laugh about how important you thought it was.

But ours actually worked! We managed to turn the common room completely classy in about a half hour, thanks to strategic christmas lights, Miles Davis, and fruit and shrimp platters. Then people actually went from the pre-party to the dance and stayed the whole time! We had to play an encore song after turning on the lights and trying to herd people home! Talk about a JA self-esteem boost, to be able to plan successful events.

Then of course there was the Sox win last night, which really doesn't seem real yet. Probably partly because I was at a meeting from the bottom of the 7th inning on (grrrr), so I didn't even get to see everyone pouring champagne all over the place.

I also had the good feeling today of being in a bad mood all morning until I actually got to sit down and focus on my readings for social theory. Oh, right, I enjoy learning things. That's why I'm here! It wasn't quite that simple, but I didn't realize that I needed a cup of tea, Belle & Sebastian, and theory reading as my antidote. Sometimes my academic interest/bent continues to surprise me.

ja, entry, d2, red sox, screw, weekend
