We got back from dead week yesterday, so today was entirely devoted to all those day-before-semester odds and ends. Bonnie and I had a lovely TC breakfast -- complete with the same bagel order, wearing almost the same outfit, in our nearly-matching jackets. It's good to have my B back! Then I did a few errands, a little organizing, went to lunch with almost the whole suite (minus Iris), and spent the afternoon doing some summer job stuff.
Tonight was Tanya's citizenship celebration over in Prospect, and it was so great to see everyone and just relax, catch up, watch Top Chef, and honor our favorite new American! I'm glad everyone is back on campus, and I also really liked the vibe on this eve of spring semester. Of course we all made some jokes and whimpers about "real" classes starting, but I love that for the most part there's the excitement of chatting it up about what people are taking, what others are majoring in, what kinds of classes and schedules there are, etc. I also really appreciate that that applies pretty broadly at Williams across different circles; this wasn't a nerdy group of people or anything (I mean, by Williams standards).
Of course, the abstract idea of the semester starting is a lot prettier than the reality. The reality is that I have to be up for my 8:30 mineralogy and geochemistry class. So as excited and hopeful as I am for a great semester, I know that there are quite a few real life things that could at least make that difficult to achieve. Most importantly, not being totally sleep-deprived.
