I passed my review Tues - without having to re-review in the fall! Woohoo! The conversation wasn't really easy...but the issues the committee raised were ones I had myself, so I feel like I'm on track with things. I'm glad I took the time to document things so thoroughly, and I'm pretty happy with the pics that have come out of the installation and performance. The video is...kinda crap, but I feel really accomplished having edited anything in Final Cut and produced a DVD that functions. (Thank god for the comprehensive PDF manuals included with the software, and for the random hours I spent watching carpe_jugulum capture and edit material...) I never guessed I would need these skills, but now that I'm getting a toehold, I'm beginning to enjoy it.
That said, here's the first round of pics from my review. The first few are of the installation I built from the 3 black snap dresses I had already completed - I figured out a way to snap them into my studio walls (steel epoxy and nails are your friends), so I worked on extending their forms all over my walls and suspending them in space. (All in an attempt to avoid using dress forms and have them start engaging the room more.)
The second are from the most recent dress I built - of me attached to the wall and pulling away from it. The strands that snap to either side of the corner I'm in are woven through the hips of the dress and can wrap around the arms to create Erte-style sleeves. It took me about 45 min to actually do that though...so I think if other people are going to interact with these and be able to change the shape around...I need to make them a bit more user-friendly and less complex. But I like it.
