Bound By Burden: A poem from Cuddy's POV

Aug 05, 2012 15:15

After reading over this poem, I think I wrote it after season four's heart-wrenching finale. The very beauty of Cuddy grabbing House's hand, when he was probably thinking he was alone, was an image I nor any House/Cuddy fan could forget. As Wilson abandoned House in that moment, Cuddy made it a point to be there at his bedside to let him know he wasn't alone.

BOUND BY BURDEN
My heart breaks for him as he hides his hurt behind a phantom's mask.
I think to myself what can I do to ease his troubled spirit, but it proves a difficult task.
He is resistant to let his worries fly away, captured on the wings of a bird whose destination is unknown.
The growth of his emotions has been choked by weeds overgrown.

How my arms wish to wrap around him like a warm blanket in a comforting embrace;
And my fingertips to caress the stubble on his face.
For I wish my touch could ease his sorrow;
And bring him hope for a better tomorrow.

But these burdens he bares lay heavy like a rock upon his chest,
Weighing him down in a tomb of unrest.
I feel his pain as it has become mine as well,
Scorching both our souls like the fires of hell.

Slowly he sinks into the quicksand of depression,
Unable to breathe stifling his confession.
To him I reach and grab his hand in desperation,
As he bathes in his worthlessness suppressing his elation.

With a look on his face so distant and far away,
My tears flow like a waterfall for him and I pray,
That he can leave the past behind,
As I soothe the maze of conflict trapped within his mind.

He turns to me with his piercing blues eyes reaching into mine,
Knowing somehow and some way all will be fine.
