Apparently, it is the opinion of a portion of alumnae and parents that the reason RMWC has decided to go co-ed is because the "Alternative Lifestyles" were too visible on campus and this drove away prospective students. Seriously, though, I remember when I was a tour guide for the college, one of the questions we were trained on was "Are they're a lot of lesbians on campus?" Interestingly enough, I only remember one distinct time when this question actually came up during a tour. And that was only because the mother of the student was a Smith Alum who thought the atmosphere at Smith was "too gay and too liberal."
Let me say that I am glad that I went to RMWC and met incredible women, both gay and straight. Let me also say that I have more contact with friends who were active in RMWC's "visible lesbian community." So, I guess that means that lesbians make better friends than us straight/not really sure girls. And I love you all for it!
