Downsizing Stuff

One of the annoying things about the move is that the lack of kitchen space means that two book cases have been drafted into service for storing spices, food, and things like the rice cooker.  Trying to be merciless about what to send to Goodwill in the kitchen is nearly impossible.  For example, I have a bunch of frying pans.
  • Three copper ones that need to be refinished on the inside after years of use.  Inherited from my deceased mom.
  • Two good stainless steel ones that get the most use.
  • Three Teflon ones.  I don't use them often, but they are the only things that I can make certain things in without battling the sticky monster.
The bread machine and rice cooker, which one would logically donate first, are things I use pretty often.  Not daily or weekly, but a few times a month.

So you see the issue.

Books are equally troublesome.  I have six boxes of books I am mailing to my sister, a friend from college, books for prisoners, and a friend from grade school.  The boxes are at work, waiting for me to get a lunch break when the post office is open.  I am in the process of rearranging the books that were haphazardly thrown on the shelves as I was unpacking boxes so that it doesn't look so ugly in here.  Eventually, I will organize by genre, color, or something else, but for now fitting and not looking like a random pile in all directions with some facing up, others left, some down, stacked horizontally, vertically, and leaning over the edges is good enough for me.  While doing this, I am culling the books that I've been meaning to read that I know I can mail off to someone when I am finished.  Looking at the huge pile of books I have, you'd think that particular pile would be larger.  It's not.  It's the size of two beer boxes.  The rest is all reference or stuff that I collect or will reread that would not be easy to find again.  If you are curious about what I read, look up drinkingtea on librarything.

Clothing is another issue.  I went through last year and got rid of everything that I wasn't holding on to for sentimental reasons, doesn't fit, and/or is just plain ugly or I have nowhere to wear it.  I now have a smaller hanging rod in my closet and need to do this again.  Ugh.

If you need something to read and aren't too picky about what, since I tend to pick up whatever looks interesting that day at the library book sales, let me know and I can add you to the 'box of assorted books' list next time I go to the post office.
