Warehouse 13, I am VERY disappoint.
Yes, you managed to tug on the appropriate heartstrings, but really, the lack of cohesion, the major retreads of plot, and the calculation of the emotional directions made it empty.
Lack of cohesion:
So, HG got trident bit A in the 1800's. Presumably somehow she figured out what it was and that there was another bit. I could far more believe that she put it on Christina's casket to protect the world from it, than that she put it there so she could get at her daughter's grave and pick it up later. Somehow, also unexplained, she figures out that trident bit B is in Warehouse 2. And possibly comes up with a plan to find it? A plan that she can't execute in the 1800s. For... no reason given.
So then, grieving over her dead daughter, she asks to be bronzed. Why? Because she wanted to wake up to a better world. BUT, given that no one in Warehouse 13 knows that she asked to be bronzed, there's no reason anyone would have reason ever to unbronze her. So... that's basically a throwaway.
100 years pass.
How does MacPherson know that HG has trident bit A? How does he know that she can find trident bit B? NO ONE KNOWS. And why would MacPherson want the bits reunited and the world ended? I mean, he was a jerk, but he wasn't really genocidal. He wanted, out of my impression from Artie's rose-coloured version of him, to let the secrets of the Warehouse be open and accessible to the world, very Fox Mulder you can't lock up the truth. And he also wanted money. There's no money in ice ages. So... dunno what's up with that. Also, HOW WOULD HE KNOW anything about HG to want to unbronze her at all, even if he does want the end of the world?
So now HG has access to the Warehouse and all its toys. (In which there are probably numerous world-ending devices. There must be or we wouldn't have a show) Instead of using the artifacts, she (the woman from the 1800s) hacks the computer systems which we know from last season are extremely secure, plus Claudia upgraded them, plus FARGO updated them, but they're easily hacked by a 100 year old woman, WITHOUT said Claudia noticing, and uses... money. If all it took was money, she could've done it in the 1800s. And... where did she find these students? And tell them they can't tell anyone? What? No sense.
So now the bad bad bad guy of last season is suddenly poor MacPherson who got killed by evil HG. P.S. You went the evil non-hetero woman route. UNCOOL.
Also, Myka thinks of Pete as a big brother? Since when? If anything, Myka thinks of Pete as a little brother.
Plot retreads:
1. SOMEONE BETRAYS US IN THE FINALE. We did that last season. Remember Claudia/Leena? Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.
2. ARTIE IS ALWAYS RIGHT. (This, by the way, relates back to my ire that James Steel is always right on L&O|UK, though I'm assured that will not be the case all series) I am bored of Artie is always right and Myka is always supersmart but actually wrong and Artie should keep lots of secrets, blah blah blah. He was right about MacPherson being the criminal. THEN he was right about him not being fully evil. He was right about never trusting HG. Except he kept referencing "the things she's done" without ever actually saying what she did to get bronzed. Which, the show tells us, she ASKED to be. (Okay, minor detour back into plot cohesion) It makes me not like Artie.
Emotional Calculation:
Season goes like so: HG WELLS IS EVIL. HG WELLS IS... Sort of Evil. HG Wells is actually pretty okay. HG Wells is our friend (girlfriend?). Even the notoriously hard-headed Regents think HG Wells is okay, so clearly, HG Wells is okay. Redemption! Yay, redemption! HG WELLS IS EVIL, it was all a trick to throw you off the scent and make you care so we could cackle at you when you discover that she was evil all along. Bullshit.
Season goes like so: Kelly hates Pete, she finds him really annoying; Pete thinks Kelly is hot. Pete doesn't get much tail, so Pete pursues Kelly, even though she isn't interested. Kelly inexplicably decides to go out with Pete. Pete and Kelly screw around. Pete is no longer in lust, he's in love. Kelly is too. Kelly loves Pete almost to death. Kelly leaves and Pete is single and emotionally wounded, making him ripe for girls next season.
I am left totally cold and really disappointed, since Warehouse 13 went from being something I watched regularly but just for fun last season to my biggest must watch this season. And now I feel dicked around. Which is a theme in Syfy shows this season and not a positive trend.
