Title: Sickness
Prompt Number/Prompt: 008/Sick
Character/Fandom: Remus Lupn/Harry Potter
Word Count: ~280
Rating: G
Warning(s): None

Growing up, Remus knew what it was like to be sick. While other children were stricken with upset stomachs and the sniffles, he dealt with pain and fever for a week each month. There were times when he thought he was going to die in his mother’s arms because the pain was too much for his young body to take.

He felt embarrassed when his parents would tell others he was sick. They always asked what he had and his parents would put on overly fake smiles and tell their friends it was a ‘Muggle disease’. Sometimes Remus was sure his parents couldn’t bring themselves to tell the truth. They couldn’t bring themselves to say their son was a werewolf.

It continued when he went to Hogwart’s, even though he thought it might get away from it. The other students knew he spent too much time in the infirmity. They spread rumors about him, saying he was dying or nutters and needed to be given special medicine so he wouldn’t go mad and kill everyone.

His illness followed Remus into his adulthood and he could never find a job. There were times when he wished his next transformation would be his last. Anything to end the pain.

It wasn’t until he met Harry and was reunited with Sirius that he truly felt human. He was part of something important again and it didn’t matter if he spent time away, being ill. He was known as Remus, their friend, not Remus, the werewolf. They never judged; instead, they worried about him and helped him through.

He was part of a family now, and families took care of each other. No matter the sickness.
