They stood by me, just like moonbeams

So.

A lot has happened this past week. Hence an actual blog under the 1 week marker per my recent usual. I've been going out a lot more, hitting the Dirty Bird and meeting some interesting people. I've discovered that when I come out of my shell, but not a loud and abrasive out of my shell, I'm well liked around total strangers. That and I have mad jukebox skills.

I didn't get the Correctional Deputy position. I talk to my Sergeant who interviewed me and pretty much he had nothing but great pointers. He said that I have all these resources at my disposal that the average applicant wouldn't and I didn't take advantage of them, so I'm going to start focusing a lot on learning as much as I can about the position before reapplying. Spend more time talking with the FTO's and seeing if I can get my hands on some of the learning binders the guys get when in program. Or maybe Welch was right; I should have interviewed like Hulk Hogan. OOOOOO Brother!

But, to be honest, it was one of the first interviews that I walked into not feeling nearly as confident as I usually do. I was a wreck. I think I need to buckle down and buy a full on tailored suit. I was so nervous because, let's face it, getting the Deputy position would be where things really start moving for my career. Not to say being an LP is a bad thing. Far from it! I've learned just as much in the past 18 months as anyone taking CJS courses at a college. But the room for advancement in that department is rough. I'll get 'em next time.

I met a girl about a week ago named Laysy at the Dirty Bird. She was texting, so I walked up and asked "Why would anyone be texting in a bar?" Since then we've hung out a handful of times. She's a cool kid. She draws, has good taste in music and food. She's just a lot of fun. And for the first time, I'm not getting ahead of myself when it comes to women. I'm just really comfortable around her. I dunno, I write too much about this kinda stuff, but hell, she's pretty rad. I crashed at her and her friends house last night. Her roomie took my car keys for some apparent reason. They live on the north side of Santa Rosa. She worked in Cotati. Needless to say, I owed Garrett something fierce for making the road trip. But, like I said, I'm not getting ahead of myself on this one. I'm taking it step by step. I'm making her lasagna on Monday night. Should be fun.

It's been a little over two weeks now, and I've gone from 225 to 219. This is exciting! I like working out...aside from this cramp I am currently getting in my shoulder...though it may be from sleeping on my side on the floor last night, come to think of it. But I digress, I have a really good gym regiment going right now, and I run into some of my co workers every now and again who give me pointers. Some random guy complimented my legs the other day, which was kinda funny, but he looked like he juices, so I took it as a good thing. My goal is 185 by April. Whether or not I make it, at this point, I wouldn't mind. I just like feeling good about myself.

Wow. 2008 is kicking ass thus far.
