Ah yes, family time. It's not until I'm somewhere without an extensive library of both books and movies that I realize how much media I actually consume in a day. Were I at home, I'd be curled up with a book, listening to a classical station on Pandora, and pondering, between pages, what sort of nifty dinner I could make tomorrow with what I already have in the kitchen. At my parent's house? Not so much. Don't mistake, I'm glad to see them, but it's a little boring here and with all of the errands I had to run today I forgot to pack for my brain. Luckily, I'm never without my DS New York Times crossword puzzles cartridge. Mua ha ha!
We ventured out tonight to pick up a few things and the
Meijer here has some rather nice looking legs of lamb on sale, so I think I'll pick one up tomorrow when we go back for Mom's grocery stuff. Looking at them tonight got me to thinking about my plans for New Year's Eve, mostly because that's the next big holiday excuse to cook all fancy like. :p At friends Thanksgiving I did get invited to the party at Doc's house, which has apparently become a tradition, but things were pretty awkward with the few people at Thanksgiving, so I'm not to keen to have that on a larger scale on New Year's. Plus, unless it's actually a big blowout with lots of music, flashing lights, and potential for chicanery with total strangers, I'm not sure how into a massively social event I'll be. I've enjoyed my quiet nights at home and gaming at the theatre (yay for big screen DDR!), and the fireworks that Kalamazoo does are my favorite part of the holiday, so I may just do that again, though I'm also fairly certain Fred is cooking up something. If it's bar hopping, I couldn't be more out. I think if I go out with anyone I want it to be special, not necessarily romantic mind you, just something that couldn't or wouldn't happen every day. I'm in the mood for adventure, be it small and mellow or grand and heart-racing. We'll see what shapes up. Who knows, I may just pop over to Chicago and watch the sunrise over the lake. I haven't done that in years.
If anyone's about and feels like doing something fun, I will be in town for the show on Saturday and that means I'm free the rest of the weekend. As usual, I'm housesitting for a few friends over break, but that's a very minimal time commitment barring a massive blizzard that necessitates a lot of shoveling. Fun stuff doesn't really kick back until at the libraries and museums until after the first, so I'm without my usual (though rarely used) weekend merriments. Plus, since the kids are all out of school, I'm not tied to town during the beginning of the week as is my custom, which means the potential for a road trip or, at the very least, a jaunt to somewhere farther away than Grand Rapids.
It's silly how ready for bed I am. :) Something about this place is soporific, like a warm coat and heated car seats. At least I can enter Dreamland knowing I had a full enough day to warrant a bit of a sleep.
