There is a crackle, and then the sound of someone humming under their breath. Sounds of revelry can be heard in the background, along with shifting fabric and the clack of costume beads]

Masquerade, paper faces on parade...
hide your face so the world will-

Ah. There it goes.

Is it not odd, how so many strive to be 'whole' and 'complete', to have no part of themselves hidden from the world? Its as if we truly believe a world without masks and illusions would be preferable. As if we could stand constantly showcasing our sins and mistakes, our embarrassments and hidden desires.

I, for one, find that a bit naive. There are things one never wishes to show the universe or be constantly reminded of, and that is hardly a fault. And would not the world be boring if all illusion was gone? Far better to construct ones masks well, and not lie to oneself about what they conceal.

So why not wear a mask for a night, and let ones inner soul free? Sin and decadence have their place, after all. Humans need no patronizing fog to over come our inhibitions; we have created an entire holiday for it.

Would anyone be interested in joining me for Mardi Gras?
