[Good afternoon, ducks. The first part of this message is comprised of an image, a simple blue background covered in a barely-legible scrawl, along with a few small scribbled drawings for emphasis here and there. The whole thing is covered in equation after equation, and - if you've a background in that sort of thing - appears to deal with the ( Read more... )

Perhaps you should trust your instincts a bit more. I have yet to find myself in a layer of rock or the center of a sun, and I use far less precise tools than any mechanical device.

[The last time he trusted his instincts he lost an Admiral's dog. :/]

I'm afraid this is one project I'd rather not leave to instinct. If I might ask, what tools do you use?

[Repressing his instincts has a tendency to get Karakael in trouble. So he may be quite different from Scotty.]

Only a few aging brains; my own and that of a long gone galactic starship. And even that is more than some need.

I'm afraid I don't quite follow. You've the brain of a starship?

[Because yes, that is what catches his attention first.]

Well, a portion of it, at least. How else would I be able to perceive the logic of the Overcosm?

[Karakael knows very well that he sounds insane. But that just makes things more interesting~]

Starships have got brains, where you're from?

[Clearly this is an important matter that needs to be cleared up.]

They did once. Or, to be more precise, our star ships did not have brains, they were brains. Brains large enough to be carved out into star ships and plated to be space safe.

[........what.]

That sounds a bit... Well. We haven't got anything like that here.

[Welcome to the Inquest~]

I imagine not. The delphinoid shipminds seem to native only to my universe. That, or they are better at hiding themselves in other versions of the milky way galaxy.

An entire starship that's just one giant brain... Are they self-aware, then?

Yes. And most of them are insane, thanks to the process which makes them into starships.

it's fine! :3 I'm totally cool with backtagging lt_cmmdr_scott February 3 2011, 00:51:26 UTC
Do they choose to be made into starships?

Would you chose to become an insane monster forced into servitude of your human masters?

lt_cmmdr_scott February 3 2011, 01:05:11 UTC
Then they're forced into it.

hok_ton February 3 2011, 01:06:39 UTC
Well, yes. Would humans in your world do different, should enslaving a completely alien race be the only way they could travel the spaces between the stars?

We would rather be confined to one planet than steal the freedom of another species.
