The English Channel is the body of water that joins the Atlantic Ocean to the North Sea, and separates Great Britain from the north of France. At 560 kilometers long and 240 kilometers wide at its largest point, the Channel is considered by many to be a small sea of its own, though it is much shallower than any of the proper seas.
