Things have gotten pretty busy for me in the last little while and I didn’t really realize it until I was in the thick of it. It’s a good sort of busy though, the kind that keeps me working at the office job without going insane.
I am in a new play, a paying gig (profit sharing, but we’re pretty much guaranteed pay) called Matt and Ben. The play toys around with the idea that Good Will Hunting just fell from the sky and I will be playing Matt Damon. Oh yeah. Learning how to not sit like a lady comes a bit more naturally to me, but the voice is going to be a bit difficult.
I’m also writing a collaboration of sorts with my friend Shannon called “the Toadstool Monologues”. It’s interesting collaborating again, because as in all collaborations the people involved often have different styles that they’re used to. It’s certainly going in different directions than I thought it would, but not necessarily in a bad way. A lot of my feelings about have amounted to “Trust that this will work” since Shannon is a good playwright and can do these things with ease. She provides the feminist commentary, I provide my video game expertise and comedic timing and through that we should at least get something entertaining out of it.
As a way of getting my screwball comedy tendencies a way to vent and to get myself in front of a camera, I’m continuing to do my video series “Whitless Letters to…”. If anything, it’s fun and keeps my creative juices flowing. Dan came by yesterday to help me film the next installment, and it’s pretty great to have not only someone who knows the equipment and basic camera work and what will be funny in terms of editing, but also knows the subject matter and my style very well so I never have a problem trusting that he’ll do a great job with it.
Other than that, I’ve been feeling an itch lately to change. Change to what, I don’t know, but maybe a new job in the future. The big thing with me right now is that I don’t feel I’m really good enough for anything else other than clerical work, and even well paying clerical work is still clerical work. Still, I have my place, and my shows, and for the next little while I’ll be fairly busy with both of those things and probably won’t have time for the friend things I want to have time for but that will make my eventual catch-ups all the better!
