Today was so beautiful...66 degrees, sunny, and breezy. Isn't it amazing how when the weather improves, the whole world opens up? I used to find it nearly unfathomable to walk down the street to the store, but today, with the warm weather, I could venture as far as I wished. :) My main quest was to try to find a bathingsuit for Orlando, but NOBODY was selling them (except American Apparel, and none of their suits had cups of any kind - so apparently, they were made for 12 year old boys), so I just got a smoothie and wandered around. I also splurged a little bit and got a $30 sundress with a pattern of oranges - so at least I got to do a some summery shopping.
I also learned to knit again recently! My friend Lucy taught me how to purl and cable stitch, so now I'm making a pretty cabled scarf. This is the first time I've ever followed a pattern, never mind the first time I've done more than 3 inches of knitting without a mess of dropped stitches and knots. I just wish I could bring it on the plane with me...but I'm worried my needles might be classified as a "weapon." :/ But in the meantime, I've been meeting up with Lucy and some other friends once a week for a "Stitch and Bitch," and it's really been the best.
I need to work to make more time to just hang out with friends - preferably not just "theatre crazy" friends. As much as I love them, all the politics can sometimes be too much. I hate being the prudy, close-lipped one when they gossip about people. I mean, I know first hand how hurtful it can be to be the outsider, but I also don't want to call attention by "refusing" to talk about people, making me look like some prissy jerk trying to hold myself higher than everyone. Argh! Stories about riding a bike in winter, plastic bags strapped to one's feet, and bellowing "Me and Julio down by the schoolyard" are much more fun to listen to. :)
I hope my birthday will be warm this year...picnic by the lake?
I found a documentary on Bread and Puppet the other day, and now I'm even more psyched:
http://www.archive.org/details/ah_the_hopeful_pageantry_of_bread_and_puppet Amazing, right?
Is it summer yet?
Also, I'm obsessed with Kenny Loggin's version of "All the Pretty Little Horses", thanks to the Velveteen Rabbit this past weekend (Purple Crayon's second show this year - I saw it 3 times). They used it in this gorgeous "aging" sequence, as the Boy and Rabbit played and the rabbit got older and shabbier (by removing pieces of his costume, pulling out threads, etc.). I cried everytime. Damn, I was so proud of everyone. Such a fantastic production. PCP is 2 for 2 now, between Velveteen and Ezigbo, I think. :)
And hey, congrats if you made it this far. I know I'm irrepressibly verbose.;)
Salut, mes amies.
