Well, big news of the day is the death of Yasser Arafat. I'm sad to hear he's gone.
And on to more trivial concerns...
I got caught in the storm coming home this evening (I bought a new watch, which I've decided I'm going to exchange because I chose the wrong one, and some tracing paper and groceries, and spent hours window shopping and trying on stuff I wasn't going to buy ::grin::), wearing a camisole and cotton skirt... oh, and my boots, which were full and sloshing with rain water by the time I came back. There was massive lightning and the rain was full-on. It takes me about 40 mins to get home from the shopping centre and it started really pissing down after about 5 mins. And me with no wet t-shirt contest to go to. I was actually surprised when I got home and hadn't been struck by lightning. I was clinging to my umbrella for dear life, figuring my rubber soles counterbalanced the lightning-rod factor enough to justify it. The only part of me that didn't get totally soaked was the top of my head.
Oh, the trauma - The Practice is ending! I have become absolutely addicted to this show - lately it has become riveting. The bastards.... just when it gets really good they have to effing go and end it. ::shakes fist::
Keep forgetting to copy Mr Bungle cds for Jodie. Hopefully writing it here will remind me.
And DAMNIT, I WANT BRACES!!!!!! ::whining, groaning, pitifully frustrated noises::
Meanwhile, the BDO line-up is droolworthy. Drew is going... maybe if I can scrape up enough cash I'll brave it this year and go with. I fucking hate the venue. And the price of water. And the line-up for the loos. And the merciless heat (not enough shelter at all). BUT this line-up makes it seem worth it. Why they fucking even let people put on concerts in that place is beyond me. I can only draw the conclusion that it's down to the corrupt and the irresponsible in both business and government. Haha, surprise!

Oh, P.S. I was asleep at the 11th hour of th 11th day of the 11th month, so at least I definitely had my one minute's silence. Absolutely no disrespect intended.
I usually worry that I will miss it.
When I was at school, Remembrance Day and Anzac Day were always interesting and imbued with sincerity and information and a little extra thought and care. It means a lot to me to remember all those poor souls who died at war, and remember what they all went through, those who died and those who survived. I can't describe how grateful I am that we have first hand accounts. I am not a particularly morbid person but I would not turn from the face of death and suffering because I did not want to recognise the horrors that people have endured, the tragedies we have created and/or fallen into and the sacrifices that many have made. I would not turn from horror if it meant I would not know compassion. On a day like today, I hope that we see that the business of war is a terrible one, one not worth pursuing and upholding.
I can see that many have not learnt from what the human species has endured. I see greed and lies and jerking off to violence.
I see my country supporting dictators and war-mongerers and big business tycoons and valuing money over peace and I say, again, "this is folly". While some fight for their homes, their lives, their health, their families, others create war for money.
I am dismayed by the prolific cruelty on the face of this planet.
And of course I love those who care.
My two cents.
