The new update page has just upset me, as I couldn't find the "post in" option at first and I was all like "where has it gone? What have they done ( Read more... )

We can't destroy everything. We don't have the power. Life will continue in one form or another. Humanity itself can adapt like a motherfucker. I'm sceptical of the notion we could even wipe ourselves out. Even if we reduced the human population by 99% - that's still 60 million people on the planet. There was less than that a few centuries ago.

Aye, the world will live on, but the world as we know it could be destroyed. It saddens me that humanity, along with very many of our friends in other species, could be destroyed or very badly damaged. It's not that I feel that humanity is better than everything else and thus should be saved, or that the world only exists if it is the way we know it, or in a state in which we can survive, but I love humanity as any other species and they are what I am, and what my family is. Unfortunately, if even 10% of our population is wiped out, those people will not be the people who are truly responsible for this mess. People; children, old people, middle aged people, they will all suffer and die and lose thir loved ones, and it could all have been prevented. Yes, we are highly adaptable, but I find it tragic that we should have to adapt to suffering and pain and live in a world that has been stripped, robbed and gutted. I don't see our survival or destruction as some sort of win/lose equation - having a larger surviving population than that of ( ... )

Have you seen 'The Day after Tomorrow"? It's quite nifty for adressing the global warming issue, and it presents a scientific theory that has some support in some circles.

I like it, because it gets the issue out there, and unlike independance day, or Armegeadon, there was nothing mankind could do to stop it once it started.

I think you'd like it.

Nein, I have not seen it... yet. If you recommend it, I shall probably give it a look, though. When it came out I was a bit sick of the ads and a little sick of the whole disaster theme, y'know? I used to have a major fear of tsunamis, and I can't say I'm so keen on them, now, but I've managed to get through Deep Impact about 5 times now, so I must have come to some sort of plateau... still scared, but stable, and not losing my lunch or anything drastic like that. But if this movie presents a scientific theory, it sounds interesting.

There isn't really a great tsunami scene per se - just the oceans and ground water levels rising a whole lot in lover areas. The add tried to make out it was some big thing that it wasn't. I wasn't keen on seeing it because of the whole overdone disaster movie thing [still haven't seen Deep Impact] but I enjoyed it. Lots.

Ahhhhh, I seeeee! Well, that sounds much better then. ^_^
Deep Impact was enjoyable in a hand-wringing, gut wrenching, tension filled kind of way. I liked the actors, but it was a little sad.
