I was only thinking, on the weekend, how much I'm loving my comic books right now.
Blackest Night has not only been an utter blast, it's continued my unbroken run of great cross-overs (following on from Reign of Kings, Messiah Complex and Utopia). The new Transformers spin-off, Last Stand of the Wreckers, is precisely what I want from my giant mech fiction. Power Girl is a joy, Ultimate Spider-Man is silly fun (viva la Amazing Friends) and I enjoy most of
stareyednight's books, too.
But nothing floats my geek boat like Green Lantern Corps. And as much as I've thrilled to its cross-over adventures, I'm salivating for the book to get back to basics and tell its own stories once more. What I've previously heard about
the new writer and
his choice of cast makes me happy; the only question I had left regarded the artwork. Will Patrick Gleason's replacement - so-called "rising star" Ardian Syaf - be able to handle space opera?
I'm thinking so.

BRIGHTEST DAY continues scorching with “The Revolt of the Alpha Lanterns” as the Alphas seek to recruit John Stewart, Kyle Rayner and even former Guardian Ganthet into their ranks! What is their ultimate goal - and who is the mastermind behind it all?
----------
Kyle back in manga-style armour? John rocking the ex-marine thing grafted onto him via the animated continuity? Creepy robot GLs scheming to do bad things? All rendered in nice, clean linework heavily reminiscent of Chris (Spaceknights) Batista? Yes, the last piece of the puzzle has fallen into place: the art looks good. Not as frenetic and exciting as Gleason's, perhaps, but it is only a cover image. The interiors could be even better again.
Unless I miss my guess, Green Lantern Corps is set to remain my favourite comic book of the moment.
