Gabriel to Solid Food: "Drop Dead"

Feb 21, 2009 13:31

We made attempt #1 at introducing Gabriel to solid food today. As per the instructions, we mixed 1 tablespoon of single-grain rice cereal with 5 tablespoons of formula pre-mixed with water. We used the special tiny plastic spoon that I bought just for the occasion. But he was having none of it. He seemed perplexed by the idea of the spoon in his mouth, even when I left it in there for a few seconds to see if he would at least suck the food off it. Nope. I tried letting him suck some food off my finger. Nope. We swapped, and Carlos tried to feed him. Nope. We gave him his bottle for a few seconds, then tried cereal again. Nope. He sucked a little food off Carlos's finger, but mostly treated the spoon like it was his evil arch nemesis.

Of course, we got it all on video, which I'll upload one of these days for everyone's amusement.

And we'll try again tomorrow, and the day after that, until Gabriel learns the fine art of taking sustenance from something other than the bottle.

Meanwhile, this phase of his where he needs his arms pinned down until he falls asleep is killing my back. Carlos claims he doesn't need his arms pinned down every single time he goes to sleep, and maybe for Carlos he doesn't, but for me he does. Owie ow ow.
