Another problem solved!

I can’t remember if I mentioned I was having problems with my new cooker…

It’s not your ordinary cooker; it’s supposed to be a ‘state of the art’ Italian cooker. I paid a small fortune for it, because it was 900mm wide, duel power (gas / electric), optional fan-forced, stainless steel (which I paid even more for) and cast iron (nothing warps with the heat).

When I chose it, I was really looking forward to getting back into some creative cooking and perhaps renewing my love of the art.

Anyway, the first time I used it the timer wouldn’t work properly, then I noticed that all the ignition sparks were flashing whenever I tried to light the oven, and then I burned myself on the control knobs because it was leaking heat where it shouldn’t.

So, I called the company responsible for the warranty on January 31st. Two weeks later they finally sent someone to have a look at it and he also noticed that the interior light cover was missing. It took several nasty phone calls over the past weeks to them to get the parts required to fix it.

One of the customer service people actually suggested that I don’t use the cooker at all when I stressed to her that the issue with external heating was dangerous. Of course, I pointed out to her that I feed a family, I paid thousands for this cooker, and I expect the damned thing to work perfectly for that sort of money, so why can’t they just send the parts they were supposed to send?

Monday was the last straw as far as phone calls went, because while the guy I was speaking to was pleasant and helpful, he actually dared to quote the Australian Standards in relation to exterior heating of a cooker. Well, I went one better; I quoted the instruction manual to him, which categorically stated that the exterior was supposed to be ‘cool to the touch’ no matter what function the cooker was performing and told him that the Australian Standards were totally irrelevant when the unit sold with that sort of information attached to it, so they’re either guilty of false advertising or the unit is faulty.

Funnily enough, the parts arrived this morning and my cooker was fully functioning (and staying cool where it should) by lunchtime *woot*

My mother is coming to visit tomorrow *groans* I just hope she’s in a good mood, because my patience is running a little short this week.
