Author’s Notes: Just like the last instalment, this is unbetad and it’s really late, so if you see something twitchy just point it out ;) I’m not really sure where this is going, so feel free to comment, ask questions or whatever - it might just help me discover where Edward is taking me. I’m still blaming
seegrim for this little adventure ;)
Edward watched Bella closely as she approached him. Though she moved with caution, she exuded confidence and something else - something he didn’t want to think about. It was hard not to consider what he was sure was going through her head, because with every step her expression of desire deepened. If he didn’t put a stop to this quickly he wouldn’t have a hope in hell of maintaining control and he couldn’t afford for that to happen.
“You shouldn’t believe everything Emmett tells you,” Edward said tightly. He’d meant it to come out nonchalantly, but the way her eyes were devouring him made him feel anything but relaxed. “He likes to tease you.”
“Sometimes he’s not teasing me,” Bella responded, as her hand trailed over his hard chest.
Edward cringed mentally. He didn’t need to read her mind to know that she didn’t believe Emmett was teasing her. This was going to be more difficult than he’d first thought, especially considering he’d like nothing more than to sling her over his shoulder, like Emmett had done to Rosalie, and carry her up to his room. “Bella…”
“Yes, Edward.”
“We had a deal, remember?”
“I remember.”
“You become my wife first,” Edward reminded her, just in case she needed a refresher.
She smiled at him in way that didn’t happen when they were in mixed company. “But if you’re-“
“I’m not,” Edward cut her off. The lie had flowed off his tongue easily, mostly because he was still terrified that he might lose control and kill her - it was a sobering thought. “Definitely not. Emmett was just teasing you.”
“Why would he do that?”
Edward took an unnecessary deep breath. Bella was practically purring at him, and it was having what he was sure was the desired effect. “He was thinking some things that he knew would bother me, and I called him on it, so he’s teasing you to get back at me,” Edward explained while removing her hand from his chest. This was hard enough to discourage her without feeling her alluring warmth.
“What sort of things was he thinking?”
“I’d rather not repeat them.” Edward watched her closely to see if she was going to be a good girl.
“You’d rather not or you won’t?”
Edward gave her his best, crooked smile. She knew him too well. “I won’t. His thoughts should never be put into words; they’re too disgusting.”
Bella huffed discontentedly. “Fine.”
“Did you talk to Renee-“ Edward’s question trailed off as Jasper and Alice walked into the house.
They were so engrossed with each other that they didn’t acknowledge Edward or Bella. Their love was far less expressive than Emmett and Rosalie’s, but Edward suspected their commitment to each other went a lot deeper. As far as Edward had observed, Alice and Jasper loved each other on a level that was entirely unachievable to the normal human, or vampire for that matter.
Unable to help himself, Edward reached out to Jasper’s mind. He needed to know if they’d already done the deed, so he could get Bella out of here if they hadn’t. The last thing he wanted to do was explain why a thunderstorm had suddenly erupted upstairs.
‘Just a little longer, and then I can touch her. I’m going to make her howl with pleasure and beg me to take her, but not until I’ve…’
Edward pulled back with a grimace of disgust. ‘I’m going to tear his member from his body.’
All of a sudden, Alice paused on the staircase and turned to face Edward. Her eyes narrowing to slits as she met his gaze. ‘That was not very nice!’
“You’ve no idea what he’s thinking,” Edward said too quickly and quietly for Bella to make sense of a single syllable.
Alice quirked her eyebrows suggestively and a small, cheeky smile tugged at her lips. ‘I know exactly what we’re going to do.’
Thoughts ten times worse than Emmett’s dirtiest ideas filled Edward’s head, making him recoil and growl loudly. “Enough!”
‘That’ll teach you to be nosy,’ Alice thought amid her laughter.
“Whatever you thought just then-“ Jasper paused to grin nefariously at his wife. “-we’re doing it if it makes Edward’s face look like that,” he insisted, joining his wife in her amusement.
“What is going on?” Bella asked, sounding a little annoyed.
Edward ignored his fiancée for the time being and watched Alice dance ahead of Jasper on their way to a more private setting. He took a little pride in the fact that he’d disturbed their intense mood a little, not that it would stop them from making a whole lot of noise that Bella shouldn’t be subjected to just yet. “Let’s go to our meadow,” he suggested.
“Edward, what is going on?”
“Nothing. I just want to get out of here for a while,” Edward insisted, masking his tension with an innocent expression.
Bella huffed noisily and crossed her arms over her chest. “Something is going on,” she insisted.
“They were just-“ Edward’s eyes shot to the ceiling as the unmistakable sound of a lusty moan reached his ears. He immediately studied Bella’s face, expecting to find some indication that she’d heard Alice’s proclamation of approval, but he only found her gazing at him expectantly, awaiting an answer to her question. “I’ll explain when we get away from here.”
“Fine, but don’t think you’re going to get away with not telling me,” Bella said. “I’ll ask Alice if I have to.”
“No, no you don’t want to do that,” Edward gushed. “I’ll tell you… Just not here where everyone can hear.”
“Okay,” Bella agreed as she allowed Edward to lead her towards the front door.
They’d just come level with the staircase when Edward cursed the slowness of humans. Rosalie was gliding down the stairs with a rather irritated expression on her face.
‘You’d think they’d have a little courtesy for the rest of us,’ Rosalie thought.
Edward couldn’t help it; he reacted with a snort. “There’s a reason we only play baseball during a thunderstorm, Rose. Perhaps there are some other activities you and Emmett should only do when it’s thundering.”
Shock colored the fair beauty’s face before she composed herself. “There are too few thunder storms in Forks to satisfy me,” Rosalie explained slowly and clearly.
Although he knew Bella didn’t particularly like it, Edward couldn’t help but harden his expression to what she called his ‘vampire look’. He’d been speaking quickly and softly, so he wouldn’t have any difficult questions to answer, and Rosalie had just ruined that with very little effort. “You didn’t need to do that,” Edward replied.
Rosalie rolled her eyes expressively. “Oh grow up, Edward. I’m sure Bella doesn’t need you protecting her sensibilities.”
“Edward, what is going on?” Bella demanded.
“Nothing.” Edward picked Bella up and ran from the house before the situation could be made worse. He already had enough explaining to do without allowing Rosalie the opportunity to add even more to his burden.
