I just got a notification from LJ that your birthday was coming up, and I wondered what you'd been up to. Happy Birthday, and check your userprofile for virtual gifts :-)

I turned 71 last December, after surviving a whole lot of medical nonsense last year (right about this time of year) - kidney stone, inept treatment of which left me unable to eat or drink more than a mouthful at a time, losing 27 KG in five weeks, heart failure, "atrial fibrillation" (a type of heart arrhythmia), a minor stroke, and then a whole bunch of recovery. I'm a lot better now, although I still can't do arithmetic and my balance is a little wonky - I walk with a cane (bright purple metallic finish, with a gaudy tassel hanging from the hand grip). I'm taking T'ai Chi lessons from a former student of mine (who is certified by a specific "school" of T'ai Chi) - I got a cheap video camera and we're doing the lessons via Skype! He's in the US Navy. So far the T'ai Chi has helped me a lot with my balance and coordination, and improved my stamina. And the other thing that has helped me most is medical marijuana, which is legal in New Jersey; my neurologist prescribes it for me.

I'm happy to hear that you have a new gentleman friend and the two of you have good times together. You always seem to be busy with something creative! I need to get more of my strength back before I start any more projects.

Happy Birthday, and I hope you get lots of presents, cards, phone calls, and cake!

so I imagine you were rather glad to see the back of 2018!! I have followed some of your entries and did see some of the things you have been going through. Good to see that you are getting back to normal (abnormal?) again...and i love the idea of a purple cane with a tassel!! I am told that T'ai Chi is excellent for balance, muscle strengthening etc so glad you have found a way to do that. Modern technology can be amazing sometimes!!! i am not as creative as i would like to be - stuff like reading and playing games on the computer tends to distract me from the more effort requiring activities like art and gardening, but I did manage to paint a picture while on holiday and Paul and I are planning an afternoon at the local Art studios in Long Eaton tomorrow so that might encourage me to make more effort. The "Messy Easter" craft afternoon at the Church was great fun (I have never been the inventive type but can follow instructions) as I spent the time making Butterflies out of coffee filters and lolly sticks, plus felt tip pens for decoration. The things you can learn in your old age!!! Thank you for my virtual gift. The more dragons the merrier. Hugs.

I've been hoping that 2019 will be a much more promising year, but so far nothing outstandingly wonderful has happened yet. The one thing about Skype is that it fulfills one of the major prophecies of science fiction - video telephoning. I don't have a flying car, a jet pack, a robot housemaid, or my own rocket ship, but at least I can video-phone my friend no matter where he travels to (I haven't tried Skyping to anyone else; Skype charges money for calls to a phone number - and I think I'm connecting with him through an online multi-player-game server. (Oh, and his name on Dreamwidth is Seadragon!)

I waste a lot of time watching videos on YouTube. My current favorites include a Japanese master chef, a veterinarian in Spain who rescues seriously ill or injured animals and finds good homes for them, a lady who breeds non-venomous pet snakes (and they're very pretty), a self-taught blacksmith in the woods of upstate New York State, a tornado chaser who stops to move endangered wildlife out of the road (seeing him sweet-talk a rattlesnake, saying, "You gotta stay off of roads if you want to live a long snaky life!) and he also composes and plays music that he uses in his videos. I also watch a Norwegian woman blacksmith who follows the old Norse ways, and an assortment of musicians and bands, and some science nerds and food channels :-)
