In less than a month
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King is released, and I have to say, I am excited. That said, I haven't played Warcraft in two months. Dragomir, my orc warrior, languishes at the cusp of 40, and yet I haven't even logged on to farm iron so I can afford a mount. Why have I so neglected a hobby for which I pay a monthly fee? Several reasons.
1. D&D 4e: I gotta say, the space between the end of my last 3e game and the beggining of my 4e campaign saw me logging quite a few hours on Warcraft. With the release of the new game, however, I just became completely enrapt in the process of learning the new system and planning a new campaign.
2. Work: I am a technical writer. I sit in front of a computer all day, writing about computer software, except when I'm in meetings where we talk about computer software, but then I just go back to my desk and write some more stuff about computer software. At the end of the day, I usually just wanna cook some dinner and grab a book (which usually leads me back to #1) rather than spend more time on a computer.
3. I like Warcraft, but I don't love it: Its true. Approximately 30% of the people I call friends consider Warcraft to be their primary hobby. Its just not the case for me. I like to get online, finish a few quests, maybe farm or goof around or maybe join a PIG and do a raid, but that's about it, and I usually only play for about four hours at a time. That's why my primary character is not even 40 yet. I just don't invest in Warcraft as much as I do other hobbies.
And yet, here I am, on the cusp of a new expansion, and I find myself thinking about WoW more and more. Maybe I'll go home tonight, grab a bite to eat, blow the dust off of my account, and see if I can't ding 40. After
Fringe is over of course, and after I put the finishing touches on the adventure for Saturday.
*sigh*
So many hobbies, so little time.
