Last night, I went to see Phantom of the Opera. The show-not the movie.
My first time seeing it.
words quite literally fail me right now.
I have seen Les Mis, Lion King, Jekyll and Hyde...and this tops them all in set, lighting and costume. I almost don't need the people haha! just have the orchestra and floating costumes lol...theres an image! I realize this is the ''flavor of the week''--Im like a kid who has just been given a shiny new toy. For the next week, nothing can come remotely close to my line of vision outside that of the shinies....but give me two weeks and there may be a new infatuation.
doubt aside--
how would I go about becoming stage manager/backstage hand for a show like this one. Do people specialize in theatrical time periods like costume designers and cinematographers do for film??
I think I'll see what happens this Thursday at the Theater I joined last week, when I attend the props workshop with my friend...the producer of the show...*who was actually very encouraging when I said Id be interested in stage managing if training were available. Props and acting too of course...but apparently the Stage manager people are in high demand.
Oh, and the whole point of becoming a stage manager/stage hand is to get to the point where I can work on a
TRAVELING show! Best of both worlds! Travel and creativity! Bam! Ive done it. Theres my job description. Press Print.
At the moment I say this i 'more appealing than film right now, possibly because my brain is truely still in ''awe-and inspired' mode from last nights' show- and the fact that this is more readily accessible in my life right now. I have experience in the field. I know the tricks behind the magic, and STILL want to be a part of it. Heck-knowing how to do the magic means I have become the magician myself! Which gives me reason to continue to become the best at my craft (*In the long scheme, ...well...and at the moment!---I don't know WHAT my craft is!--But this is for sure worth considering, even with my giddyness aside)
And Im sure you realize Im just partially joking about getting into this. Like I said in that novel I sent you recently--part of me is afraid to openly admit that this is something I truely could see myself getting into. Mostly because its one of those fields people discourage pursuing as its '' a hard life- a dreamers' world- don't waste your time with it-kind of endeavor''--Although I realize, I can step past that.
Its appealing, and people DO do it.
Amazing what lack of sleep makes you forget to write down. Yeah, The above was just sort of the point of last night's little epiphany like shout out.
I was having moments watching it, where my brain was overly saturated with the spectacle of this show, and how---unlike with film---what I was seeing was REAL. Tangible. Alive. Yes film has positive pulls and areas which are also greater than theater too. But last night, I was having trouble finding any that would win over this. Not that its a competition. Im just in awe of both types of media being able to immerse the viewer in an environment to the point where part of the brain believes there is nothing outside of those fabricated worlds.
Yeah, too much to say in email...and I can't think of how to properly explain. (*again, infatuation)
So Tara's fallen in love with the theatre at an age she can actually appreciate and do something about it! I'll go again!
::wow...gushing much?::
And now-off to class.
huggs to all!
