Today was certainly a long, but productive day. Nothing particularly exciting happened, I just feel like talking about it.
Denver set an alarm for 6:45 this morning. He promptly got out of bed, got dressed and left for work in Ocala, but I stayed in bed until around 7:30 (I was awake, I just chose not to get up and do anything). Took my shower, walked the dog, fed myself and left the house at 8:30.
I had a long list of things that needed to get done. First was to get fuel.
Second was to go to my Entrepreneurial Marketing class I’m auditing at UF. I left the house with enough time to park at the Reitz Union and walk to class, which was a good idea since that’s what I ended up doing. There is metered parking in front of Hough Hall, but only eight and they were all taken. I was still pissed to have to park at the Reitz, though, especially since I had to pay $5 for all day parking, when I was only going to need it for 2 and a half hours (the parking intervals are 45 minutes, 2 hours, all day).
Everything took forever, though, so I ran the risk of being late to class. I powerwalked to Stuzin Hall and made it with one minute to spare. Of course, I wore the worst thing possible for today (a polyester polo and black jeans), but I needed to be dressed this way for work later.
Class was interesting, and I was able to leave it early since the last half hour was a presentation from a team of students. Even though I left early, though, since I had to walk back to the Reitz, it was almost like I got out of class on time by the time I left UF campus.
Before leaving the parking garage, I made a point of flagging someone down and giving him my ticket. The guy really appreciated it. Made me feel good to make someone’s day and to not have my $5 go to waste.
Drove off to Starbucks on Newberry Road. I brought my Starbucks mug so I could get 10 cents off my purchase. I ordered a “low carb” Starbucks drink for the first time. Essentially it was an iced caramel latte with sugar free syrup and heavy cream instead of milk. Let me say that it tasted…different. I haven’t had any milk with fat in it since the 7th grade, and I’ve always described non skim milk as “drinking fat.” Yeah, that’s what this drink was like. Not to mention it was bitter and not very sweet.
After that, went to two offices to collect checks. Proceeded to high-tail it onto I-75 and head to Alachua. Drank my fatty iced coffee on the way. Got off my exit and dropped by our bank to drop off the checks.
Finally showed up to the BAYS Alachua office, where I would be doing work for the next five hours. This was at 12:30.
The five hours consisted of doing maintenance on 6 laptops and desktops and following a really disorganized checklist on a Google Drive Excel sheet. I also had to refer to the Google Drive to do several things. It was kind of stressful since some of the people there were anxious to get their laptops back and leave. Not to mention I was on my own and only half aware of what I was doing. I figured out most things, but I think I may have neglected to do one or two things correctly. It makes me feel incredibly bad, but the computers were originally set up wrong and honestly, I don’t think anyone would ever really notice. But I WILL KNOW.
I did, however, feel pretty good about fixing the anti-virus software on one of the computers that apparently hasn’t been working since May. And I fixed a problem this one girl was having on her laptop where her function keys weren’t working. It was an incredibly simple fix (went to HP’s website, typed in model number, downloaded the Hot Key driver, installed Hot Key driver, BOOM, it works now), but she was really thankful, and I doubt any of the other techs they’ve dealt with could figure it out so fast.
Dealing with the anti-virus software, though, killed two hours of time. Yes, it took that long. Blah.
Anyway, I finally left that place at 5:30 and made my way home. Upon getting home, walked the dog and saw a text from Beth that her mother passed away last night. On my way home, I had it in my head that I needed to call her and see how she and her mother were doing. Guess I was getting one of those sixth sense kind of feelings about her.
I called Beth and spoke with her for a while. I hope she will be okay. She will return home Monday night, and I told her we could come over if she needed company and watch a movie or play boardgames. While talking to her, Denver came home from Ocala.
After getting off the phone with Beth, tried on my new Old Navy jeans that are too big (a yay and a boo for that one!) and then took a shower. Then Denver and I typed up notes on what we did today, sent an invoice and now I’m here, writing this entry.
OKAY, I’M DONE, GOOD NIGHT.
